In Other News...August 11

- Infinity Ward says that community feedback - of which sales are presumably a part - will determine whether Modern Warfare 2 gets more than the pair of already announced map packs.

- Developer Zootfly's game adaptation of the TV series Prison Break - previously thought dead after Brash Entertainment crashed and burned - is now back on, with European publisher Deep Silver grabbing the title.

- The resume of an actor who did mo-cap has revealed that the next game in the Hitman franchise - Hitman5 - is being worked on at Rocksteady Studios (Batman: Arkham Asylum).

- Gearbox has officially unveiled the boxart for Borderlands. And it's awesome.

- It looks like the first post-Lost project for JJ Abrams and Damon Lindelof will be a big screen adaptation of Stephen King's "The Dark Tower."

Awesome cover. I would almost buy the game just to prove game covers needn't be ugly or space marine.

Dammit I have personally boycott all Stephen King books after the way dark tower ended.
And no, I didn't want a happy ending, either, just an ending

Really? I've never really understood why everyone loves the Dark Tower series so much. It must REALLY get good after the first book, because I found the Gunslinger to be pretty terrible and it didn't exactly make me excited for any followups.

Borderlands cover looks like a comic book cover (a good thing). I almost thought it was a comic that was being released.

I'm glad to read there is another Hitman game coming. For a game that I haven't played yet, the concept is one that i'm always interested in...and eventually i'll get to playing one of the games. I even thought the movie was good...for laughs at least .

I LOVED the Dark Tower series. Shit, in some ways, it changed my life (long story).

But I'm having a hard time seeing the series translate well to a film medium. The books and graphic novels kick ass, but I just don't think it'd work well on film.

I loved the way it ended. It made sense given the tone and philosophy of the series. I don't know why so many people dislike it. *shrugs*

If there's anyone I would trust to do The Dark Tower right, it's JJ Abrams. He's going to be busy between this and the Star Trek sequels. In any case, I'm hella excited. Let the casting speculation begin! If I can't have Clint Eastwood for Roland, give me Christian Bale.

I was meaning the ending. I know people who enjoy the series as a whole, but felt the ending was lackluster.

To be honest, in my experience, Dark Tower is very love it or hate it. Every person I know who has read the books is either completely in love with them (such as myself) or just completely hates them. I don't know anyone who would consider themselves somewhere in between.

I still don't think the movies will work well, but Abrams struck magicks with Star Trek, so who knows? Sides, King said it best. "If the movie sucks, who cares? The original material is still there." I paraphrased that...going from memory, haha.

Of course, no matter how shitty the movies are I'll watch them. Big big fan of the franchise.

If Clint was younger, I'd be all over that, but I think he's too old for Roland. Bale wouldn't be a bad choice though. I wonder who'd make a good Eddie Dean? He was my favorite character in the series.

I kicked myself for continuing past the point of King's warning, but after I realized that
while Roland was to begin his quest again, the fact that he'd regained the Horn of Eld that he left on Jericho Hill meant that the story could turn out quite differently the second time.

I appreciated the "end" alot more after that.

Why is it the ending of the Dark Tower always reminds me of Planescape: Torment ?

I didn't like the first book at all. It REALLY changes after that. If you find yourself looking for something to read, give book 2 a try.

The reason I dislike it is because the last few books turn into a big ego trip for King. That, and there are a great many moments towards the end that felt like King just flipping off his readers.

I think it could have been great had he written it over a shorter period. Then it wouldn't have encompassed so much of his life, and made him feel the need to make it a part of his life like he did.

I used to recommend the series to people. But after the last two books, I warn them away from it.

Great maybe JJ can put some barrel rolling bad guys into his next movie as well. Jezuz.
Well as always I will wait to see what it looks like. No need to hate it so soon.
Its always nice whenever they at least try to get something you love in a new format.

Huh... most of King's previous movies were crap... but I've seen nothing but pure awesome from JJ... I guess I'll see what happens when an immovable object is hit by an unstoppable force.

Borderlands cover looks pretty sweet.

Barring anything overly negative that comes out about the game when released, I'm definitely interested.
