More Left 4 Dead DLC Coming!

A brand new campaign is coming for Left 4 Dead! It will be called "Crash Course" and will be completely free on the PC, 360 owners will need to pay 560 MSP/$7.

The DLC will be released in September.

The primary goal of 'Crash' is to deliver a complete Versus mode experience in just 30 minutes, resulting in a streamlined version of the game's existing Versus campaigns," the company explained. "A recharge timer for infected teammates has also been added, and item spawn behavior has changed for more balanced gameplay."

"We're working with the fans toward the ongoing entertainment value of the product," said Valve founder Gabe Newell.

Now this is L4D news I can get behind (I don't want to start the L4D2 thing so I'll leave it at that).

Is this a precedent set though for pricing on Xbox 360 vs PC or has there been another situation where content is free on the PC but paid on the Xbox? Either way this is a bit of a downer for 360 owners.

I fixed the screen shot. I am remotely logged in so colors are off, it was hard for me to tell.

Microsoft doesn't like free content, and they apparently bust your balls if you try to get stuff like this onto the marketplace. I guess Valve doesn't have the time to argue with them.

Yeah I have yet to buy a Valve game for anything but PC. I miss the achievements but I like my free DLC they provide with Steam. I also love Steam like a child.

Oh I know about MS's dislike of free content. That has been well documented over the past several years.

I'm just wondering if some other company before now has ever not had "time to argue with them" in this way, and just made the 360 version of their content paid. As far as I can remember this hasn't happened yet but obviously I don't see or remember all the gaming news that goes by.

Epic and MS had a fallout on this topic a while back. Basically, Epic wanted to make some free content available for the first Gears game, but MS wanted it to have a fee. After a couple of weeks or more if arguing, it was decided that the content would be a timed premium download, and free later on (I guess it was four or six months).

So MS still wins, regardless of the time developers spend fighting for free content on XBL.

Also, to all those who were smug about L4D 360 being as good as the PC version: SUCK IT!
