Aion: Tower of Eternity... any takers?

I've had my eye on this game for a while and everything I've read about it makes it seem awesome. I haven't played an MMORPG since EVE and it was probably EverQuest before that, so I'm a little hesitant to jump in again, but this one has definitely piqued my interest. The time requirements are definitely a factor, although from what I've read they aren't nearly as heavy as a traditional Korean MMO, so that has me really curious.

Is anyone else planning on picking this one up, or pre-ordered and gotten into the closed-beta events? Thumbs up or thumbs down?

I pre-ordered, but have yet to actually participate in any of the beta events.

I played it from 1-10 during one of the closed beta events and i liked what i saw. The levling pace felt like a western MMO and i had plenty of quests to help me level up and get some gear and such. I'm really looking forward to the next event which starts the 30th too, so i can get to see some more of the game

No dungeons, no raids, a deal-breaker for me.

The game is beautiful, but even the stunning beauty pales when you have to grind another 10 leper-butterfly wings.

If you like PVP, and crafting, this will keep you busy as hell. If you don't mind every character-building choice you make to be purely cosmetic (a necessary evil in a perfectly balanced MMO), you'll love this.

Furthermore, it's a tad bit buggy on the UI side, because they're shunting everything from Hangul into Roman text, and also the lore translation suffers slightly in some places.

Go ahead and pre-order from Steam, try it out over the weekend, and if you don't like it ask for a refund. That's what I did.

From my perspective, if I wanted more raiding, I would just stick with WoW. I'm pretty tired of that whole scene.

I have thought about buying it. It does look good, and the negatives off the top of theJack's post make it seem even more interesting (I have never been a fan of hours-long raid-style play).

Huh... I didn't know about no raiding. That's actually better for me as well because I don't like having to set aside the time for it. Small mobs that can be done with a group or two is about the max that I want.

I have it pre-ordered but have yet to try a beta weekend. Will try and jump on the next one. I, too, didn't know about there being no dungeons, and I will have to see how that goes as I love five mans in WoW.

How solo-able is this game? If I can solo this game from lv 1 all the way to end game, then I will be a happy camper.

Korean MMO. It's by the Lineage studio, they hate players I think.

I am going to avoid the game after looking into the timehole that was Lineage 2.

Really, because from what i've played it feels very much like a western MMO with an asian artstyle.

I liked everything about Lineage 2 other than the grind. Seeing as how that was a HUGE part of the game, I gave up after a month or two. Sounds like this game has much less grinding, so if it stays true to everything else, I think it may be just what I'm looking for.

Where did you hear that? It's nothing but grind, with some crafting thrown in for good measure.

Edit: I played to level 20 and they have none of the quest-chain complexity of Wrath of the Lich King. It's exclusively basic FedEx, kill, and gather quests. If they're saving the big plot-line quests for the higher levels... but somehow I doubt that, as the game and writing is all older than WotLK.

Well, I bit the bullet and pre-ordered so I could get in on the beta this weekend.

So far I'm really digging it. The game is gorgeous, the writing isn't in Engrish and the character customization is absolutely unreal cool.

there are like 12 dungeons on release date and there are raids, i was doing 24 person raids on my lvl 23 assassin last weekend.

^^ these are the patch notes for the version being released NA/EU on sept 22nd

i played Aion for 3 betas now and i told my self i would never pay to play, as did about 10 of my guildwars friends that are all joining me in Aion now.

best thing to do is try the game, i read there is a open beta coming up before release, if anyone is interested i will post the info when i come across it (should be in the next 3 weeks or so, only 1 more closed beta)

I had a beta key for the weekend event just gone but it wouldn't let me use the key until the event started, and since I was getting a massive 30KB/s download speed the event would have finished before I'd downloaded the client. Shame.

After playing through the beta weekend, I'm very happy with my pre-order. This game seems like one I'll be enjoying for a long while.

I only played about an hour today and made it to lvl 5 as a mage, so far I like it.. its a bit different, but progression seems quick which is satisfying and combat isnt too difficult nor is the interface / game hard to understand or maneuver. Only a short play time, but I'm happy with my pre-order purchase so far. Going to see if I can't hit lvl 10 this weekend at some point.

I pre-ordered it, and will be playing during the pre-launch headstart (as well as trying it out this weekend in CBT6). Perhaps we should find a server when they announce the names just to get everyone on the same one?
