MUSICS: Give it to me.
General recommendation thread. I am half-drunk and bored. GO.
First up, Liars Academy. Nobody's heard of them, their music is next to impossible to find online, they've broken up, but it doesn't matter because they are awesome. If you are a fan of Samiam, you must check out this band. http://www.myspace.com/liarsacademy Dying As Fast As I Can and Microtron are off their fantastic second record, Demon. If you like what you hear, you can find them on Amazon MP3 or the Zune Market, and the album is worth every cent. Next, The Sleeping: and the source of my sig Dig'em. Pretty diverse. Their new album What It Takes is pretty rad. Dinosaur Jr: I Don't Wanna Go There from their latest album, Farm. If you haven't already, get it. Seriously. No discussion. It is fucking great. Also, their guitarist looks like Garth these days which is fucking awesome.

I've been listening to a lot of Voltaire recently, specifically the album he released last year that I wasn't aware of until now, despite already being a fan:
This album is much darker than Ooky Spooky, there isn't really any comical bent to it.

I dunno if you'd be interested in em, but I've been really digging on We Are Scientists lately.
If nothing else, I love their videos.

I've been listening to a lot of The Gaslight Anthem lately. Especially their first album, though this track is from their second album.

I think these guys got somewhat popular, but I don't give a fuck because I love'em. Gaslight Anthem: I tend to describe their sound as a punk rock Bruce Springsteen with a healthy injection of rockabilly thrown in. EDIT: Holy shit, Abyssion! Talk about timing.

Man, not to hijack my own thread, but a number of people I know have commented recently that the intro to True Blood is faaaaaaar better than the actual show.
That said, I LOVE SLEAZY BLUES.

Yeah that's fucking nuts. I was supposed to see them with Rise Against and Thrice back in October, but the lead singer from Rise Against lost his voice. I had some awful timing with concerts in the last half of '08. I really wanted to see The Loved Ones with Flogging Molly... speaking of which, I'll throw in some Loved Ones!
And my all time favorite band Zebrahead: I keep thinking of bands to post videos for, Silversun Pickups is another one of my favorites As is The Airborne Toxic Event! Here's some European bands, The Automatic (who won't let me embed) And The Wombats (I listen to too many bands that start their name with 'The')

Worst timing I ever had with a show was seeing Hot Water Music in 2003/2004. They're one of my all-time favorite bands, and I'd seen them several times before, but this time, Chuck slipped and fell with a wine glass and severed the tendons in his wrist like 2 nights before the show. They weren't sure he'd ever be able to play guitar again at the time (he's been able to, fortunately, and made some great music).
Fortunately, Thrice was also on the tour, so the trip wasn't a total loss. Dashboard Confessional was the headliner of all people. I still don't get that billing. And I stayed for them. Don't blame me, it was for the girl I was with. I think I get a pass on that one.

'Innocence' pulled at my heart strings a bit. But the acoustic version is most excellent! |

a few friends of mine have produced some pretty good music in the past few years. It's nothing that has been signed and produced, but it still sounds good.
Stasera a member of the aforementioned band, Nathan Matthew David My good friend from high school has had his hands in a number of projects. He laid guitar tracks down for a Iranian trance artist just a few years out of school. Most recently (though a few years back) he had an audition for what is now Ashes Divide. Otherwise he's been working on some of his other projects. December's Silence (used to have a lot more tracks available to listen) Recently he's been producing and mixing his own music for a new project Ash Aria Personal Link If I recall, he really started to write and put more focus on his music just after a friend of ours died in a motorcycle accident, so I'm guessing that's where a lot of the sound/mood is driven from.
