I had watched the first three back when they originally came out and was done with the franchise at that point. I didn't start to watch them again until after Furious 6 had come out, at which point I went back and watched 4-6. I think that 7 was the first one I'd seen in the theater since the first or second movie.

They go from a gearhead buddy movie grounded somewhat in reality to absolutely ludicrous heist movies with insane stunts in the installments from 4 onwards.

I just watched the first one and man, it's so grounded in reality and small details that it's hard to think that it's what started the franchise that is now this insane car-fu epic.

About to watch the second one now.

I mean, the first one opens with a heist of a truck full of CRT TVs and DVD players (though they sure looked like VCRs to me). And that's basically the main thrust of the whole movie. They'd have that dealt with before the opening credits in the newer ones.

So goes my liveblogging of the Fast & Furious franchise.

I disagree. I mean the amount of time spent on Vin Diesel and Michelle Rodriguez' relationship in the last movie showed that they actually took it more seriously.

No gaming for me this weekend, unfortunately. I did, however, finish the book I've been reading, and I'm around 1/4 of the way through the review material for my exam Tuesday. I'm hoping to do at least another quarter tonight and then the other half tomorrow evening. Overall it's been a nice, fairly productive weekend.

Solved some really cool stuff in the Witness and then ran into something that's really just a bit infuriating.

Maybe. It was also the one where they jumped cars from highrise to highrise and out of cargo planes, which clearly makes it the best one.

So, kind of an odd question, but has anyone ever dealt with a bill going to collections, before? Apparently, I failed to return a rented textbook (which is odd in and of itself, since I usually purchase from Amazon and not my school bookstore), and was informed that I have been reported. Here's the odd bit, though: I have since been contact by two different groups (one by phone and another by e-mail, too), and I am not sure who to pay.

Any thoughts, here?

contact the original biller and ask them who their collection agency is and what their phone number is.

Scammers have been known to register companies with collection agency names out of state and then scam people into paying them.

No, but this is different. :P Like, this one specific thing pissed me off.

I rounded out my weekend with a bunch more Specter Knight. So great.

As muddi points out, nobody ever.

It is still prohibitively expensive.

The Invisible Hand of the Market has decreed that people be very very much in debt to be educated.

It's pretty much unheard of for a company to send a bill off to collections without first trying to get the money directly from you. The bill collector takes a percentage of what they collect, so it's really something they do once they basically write it off, somewhat expecting you to file for bankruptcy or something. They're just hoping to get something out of it from you.

This scenario seems odd that the first notice you get is that it went to collections rather than a notice saying that you're 30 days or whatever late. As Muddi points out, contact the original company and make sure that this is both legitimate and that you're paying the correct entity. In most states they have to be able to prove you owe the debt and they have been authorized to collect it. Don't pay anyone until you have that information. Especially if you're unsure of how you accumulated the debt in the first place.

I was surprised by the fact that I didn't get an initial notice, too. I guess I'll go inquire with the bookstore, first.

Thanks, all.
