Very much so. It took a few games to fully understand what was going on, but it's really cool.

I'm assuming the vids will still be up at the NBC site. There's still so much I haven't watched.

I have to say congratulations to London, you put on a hell of a good Olympics, which is amazing considering you only have 12 pence to your name.

Now the IOC and FIFA, you can both DIAF.

Also, if I can indulge in a little bit of patriotism...

USA! USA! USA! Most golds, silvers, and bronzes.

Now carry the X and divide it by budget spent......

I really wish Canada would put a bit more money towards Olympic development. Take it from all the art spending that nobody gives a shit about.

I'm not normally one to get even slightly patriotic, but I can't help but feel a tinge of national pride at both our performance and the games themselves.

NBC can die in a fire for the ridiculous tape delay and heavy editing. Cutting Kate Bush, Ray Davies of the Kinks, Muse performing the official song (which NBC never acknowledged even existing, same as the mascots) and the Who from the broadcast last night. One of the editors came out and admitted it was between showing those "old hacks" or showing One Direction and Stomp.

Sadly the art direction for the actual Closing Ceremonies wasn't nearly as good as the Opening Ceremonies. Shame to have the David Bowie through the years and not actually have him there singing. And Jessie J, while a good singer, was involved in way too many segments. Why did the Kaiser Chiefs cover a song by The Who, who then ended the show with the same song?

But as a whole, these games were really good. Plenty of uplifting stories like Oscar Pistorius, every team having at least one woman and people actually caring about ancillary sports like archery and handball. And congrats to Team GB for their "Greatest Hour in British Sports" by winning the 3 golds.

To be fair Rodue, we'd all like to imagine those Mascots never existed. Although I agree that NBC's coverage was rather shit. I know they got a bit of stick for cutting out the 7/7 bombings tribute from the opening ceremony.

I do think the closing ceremony wasn't as good, it did drag until they brought out theSpice girls (who weren't great), Eric Idle was the highlight for me. You can have weird things, nuns on rollerskates, an opera singer and crazy things happening, as long as one of the Monty Python crew are there it all seems perfectly normal. That doesn't explain the other 80% of the time weird things were happening.

Also - I want a giant inflatable octopus...

Just my final thoughts on the Olympics, as a Canadian on our team.

We came so close to getting 19 medals. It would've been great if we got more but still I'm satisfied with the results in total medals. Disappointed we got only 1 GOLD the entire games though. Canada really needs to step its game up for 2016. Winter games have always been our forte but I think we should be top 10 in the Summer. Also 1 GOLD is laughably bad. Still though overall a decent games for Canada.

I give Canada a solid B overall (I'm being a tad generous), considering our favourites didn't nail a medal and we did better then expected without a modicum of a decent budget and an always inexistent per capita rate of athletes to talent level compared to the big guns of Summer (Russia, China, USA, UK, Germany).

Also Custio Clayton (getting robbed in boxing, terrible judges rigged it for the home team), Dylan Armstrong (was a medal fave in Shotput and failing again), the Trampoline guy (seems kinda cocky to me, and was a medal fave, going out in the final by hitting the side of the trampoline, can't remember his name atm), Canada's 4x100 relay mens team final and getting stripped of Bronze for lane violation (that 19th medal I was talking about), Jessica Zelinka in the Heptathlon and doing so well but only finishing 6th (needs to work on her jumping but probably her last Olympics), Simon Whitfield going out early in a bike accident (was always a medal fave but like Jessica is probably retiring) and lastly the womens soccer team semi-final match with US of A (terrible officiating) are definitely the lowlights for me.

See, the thing is, we really only had a chance of getting gold in a handful of events, and most of those were touch-and-go. I joke about how shit we are at the Summer Olympics, but the thing is, we just don't fund and develop athletes for it the way we do Winter, so what do we expect? We targeted 17-22 medals, got 18, targeted top-12 in overall count, got 13th. I'm gonna go ahead and call that mission accomplished.

I liked James Mirtle's rebuttal to the complaints about our medal count in the Globe yesterday; he covers the same points I thought of and a couple that I didn't. Yeah, we could've/should've had a little bit more/better in some places, but we also had a lot of unexpected positives that kind of balanced it out.
