Computer Script Plays Super Mario World by Itself
(Via Joystiq)
That's right folks! We can't be bothered to actually play games anymore, now we get those darn machines to do it for us! Computer programmer, Robin Baumgarten, has created an AI script allowing the computer to play Super Mario World by itself. You need to see this to believe it. My inner geek would kill to take a peek at that code. |

FYI, this is not Super Mario World. It's called Infinite Mario Bros and it is fan made. The video is a result of the Mario AI Competition 2009

I'm sure I've seen this before somewhere with a different Mario game.

Just plain neat. I loved seeing the red lines where the AI was deciding where to go.

That's a whole lot of nothing. especially when he dropped into the pit and somehow batman-wall-jumped out of the pit.

Give it Kaizo and we'll see how good the AI really is.

That's a feature of Infinite Mario, how is that nothing ? He made a game playing basic AI; which, like it or not, is pretty damn awsome.

Not to be a nay-sayer, but isn't every aspect of a Mario level inherently based around predictable timing?
Surely making a computer program to nail the timing perfectly wouldn't be so hard? Then again, I'm no programmer. I'm just guessing there. |

Nope, all the levels in Infinite Mario are randomly generated, so that's impossible.

Keep in mind too folks that the New Super Mario Bros. allowed wall jumping as well. You can actually play Infinite Mario yourself and see how the game works and see how awesome this AI is. I love those red lines, it reminds me of chess AI that used to show what the AI was thinking and how it was anticipating moves. This also reminds me of bots we see in FPS games.
