See, the indie scene has been more and more interesting to me lately so that's definitely something I could get behind. Do you need Gold to be able to download games? For some reason when I still had a 360, I thought you could with Silver just fine. It's been long enough that I could be way off base though.

And: I wasn't meaning to be overly inflammatory with my original post so I apologize if jimmies were rustled. Drive-by posting does that and I didn't mean to come off as condenscending.

I dig the 360 as a console for the games it offers, but when I constantly found myself having to buy a game on the PS3 to get anything online out of it, I finally got frustrated enough and sold the 360.

Yes without a gold you can buy them. Most are singleplayer but of course if their is MP you may have to pay. Indie MP games are...uhm...well for the most part shitty. I think its because they seem to require a lot of work to balance and so forth.

I can see that. I had all the systems and sold the PS3, but still have one at work and can take it home if I want. So I am a bit lucky in that regard. My sale was due to Multiplat games being so poor on the PS3(something mostly fixed now).
I am also a VERY light MP player. Maybe 1 game every other month that's MP. Applications and so forth however I do use alot.

I am hoping they name the new system something really engaging. Same with the Playstation 4 but I am pretty sure that won't happen. The console names, though they don't matter, are usually pretty atrocious.

On the other hand I dug the Saturn and its name. Not sure why but that might have been the coolest name for a system in my book.

I think had you said "Saturn" instead of "Dreamcast", I may have changed my tune and just said "yes". The Saturn was a beautiful thing. Playing Virtual Fighter in my living room blew my mind. And you're right: best name to date.

And I'm also very MP light. I like to dabble, but that's about it so that likely skews my feelings even further towards the other side. And I think I've used Netflix more than anything on my PS3 which is sort of sad in hindsight.

Ah well. Back on topic!

I just want to say that my post wasn't trolling, or even trying to, nor was it fanboyism. My point wasn't that the xbox will be better than the playstation, I was trying (failing) to make a joke that MS will probably name their next console something like that, like they did with the 360. It wasn't the Xbox 2, they had to change it to the 360, so dumb people wouldn't assume one was less than the other because of a number. That was why I said, "they should call it the xbox 'better than the playstation'. Get it now?

MS has been adding stuff to Gold for a while to try and maintain its value for money, for example ESPN. One of the problems is that much of that stuff is US or US/Canada only. What I get for my Japanese XBL Gold membership mostly hasn't changed since Nov 2005. Alternatively, if you don't really care about all the extra fluff that MS has been putting into Gold, well there's still no way to opt out and just have basic online multiplayer support. No wonder some gamers are getting angry over it.

Meanwhile, I got 10 or so games last month just for signing up to Plus on PSN, Space Marine, LBP2, Just Cause 2, Infamous 2, others. I do wish they had more free games and discounts for PSP/Vita though.

Anyway, I say this as a fan of the Xbox since Halo 1 and a former Gold member.

Exactly. Especially as it was easy to see that that was most certainly not the case.

As for the saturn yes. It was bliss for me. I know many weren't too hot on it and rightfully so. But man the memories.
