Reactors and Catalysts are special items that occasionally drop from alerts. They're highly sought after as they basically double your warframe power. So instead of having 30 mod points at level 30, you'd have 60. They're each one use only and permanently buff the frame or weapon you choose.

If I recall right, Catalysts work for weapons and reactors work for Frames.

You also need reactors to open up the last two power slots, as I understand it.

I did get a catalyst plan Wensday though. My Fragor is getting fucking sweet.

Not anymore, that was old system. New system gives you the four power cards alongside the warframe when you buy it. Now it's just based on mod points. You could easily go around with just the 4th power and nothing else if you wanted.
