Horizon: Zero Dawn

This wasn't even on my radar until this morning when I started seeing the reviews for it.

I just pre-ordered it.

This looks great, but it's coming at just a terrible time. The Switch with Zelda comes out in less than two weeks. Mass Effect also drops in March, and supposedly the new South Park game.

So...I'm very excited to play it in six months.

I think the new South Park game got pushed back again.

My initial plan was Horizon, Zelda and then Mass Effect, but my ultimate Fallout 4 playthough has dragged on much longer than expected, so I have no clue when I'll fit everything in. Worse problems to have I guess, unless I die before finishing Fallout.

South Park was delayed, wasn't it?

I'm kind of in the same position. It looks great, but have enough stuff coming down the pipe and in the backlog to keep me entertained until there's been a price drop.

I'm skipping the Switch until much later in the year, unless I see some compelling reason to buy it.

Totes forgot about Mass Effect, mind you! Dammit.

Some googling shows it was delayed, yes. Not really sure when it's coming out. I was just going by what I had seen in my local Gamestop. They have it coming out March 31.

Oh well. Still too many games to play.

I mentioned this before, but when I played it at PSX a couple of months ago I was a bit irritated with the camera and was let down by the experience. The preview videos I've seen still show that the camera pretty much sucks, but nobody seems to complain about it. Part of my issue was that was I a few inches from the TV instead of a few feet, and wasn't really used to the controls. I expect it will be good, but I'm still a bit leery of trusting these reviews.

Colin Moriarty over at Kinda Funny said that he thinks it's the best PS4 exclusive, even besting Uncharted 4, which is really high praise. I've still got a bunch of games left from the holidays and I picked up the Humble Freedom bundle last week so I won't be playing this until at least May, but I can't deny it looks like fun even if the camera sucks.

Also, total bummer about South Park. At this point I'm not sure it will be out this year.

Well I pre-ordered this hoping it wouldn't suck. And according to the reviews, my money was well spent. I don't often buy a game based purely off of how it looks. But this one looked too incredible to miss. For once judging a book by it's cover worked... I hope.

Kinda annoyed me TBH. Was excited for a moment, then bummed.

On a side note, when was the last time a game got reviewed this early? It seems like review bans are standard procedure these days.

I keep hearing it compared favorably to the newer Tomb Raider games, that's enough for me. I just hope I can finish Gravity Rush 2 and mop up some side stuff before this comes out.

My bloody Gamestop better have it available Tuesday morning as I want to play it all day. This is the first game I've pre-ordered through them in...man, over a decade...so I don't know how good they are at coming through.

I can't recall. Most games don't lift their embargoes until a few days before the game drops if they think it will be good, and the day of if they think it will be bad. Lifting this one over a week early speaks to how well they think the game will score, which is a good sign. Although Doom's embargo didn't lift until the day of and that turned out to be well received, so it's not a hard-and-fast rule, just a general one.

Agreed, Sony must be supremely confident in this thing. I am hyped

Bethesda has a new-ish policy of not letting reviews out before the game launches, and I'm fine with it since it has become a world of Day 1 patches.

Sony must be confident about Horizon, and apparently its paying off. I think it matters more here because it is an unknown franchise and will benefit more from a little hype. If I hadn't already pre-ordered this would definitely be on my radar now. (Positive early reviews sold me on Far Cry 3 as well.)

I hadn't heard of this game until last week when my spouse was like "I pre-ordered you a present!"
Definitely looks like the kind of game I would enjoy, but I doubt I'll be able to play it for more than an hour here and there until the end of the week due to robotics team meetings and such.

Absolutely stunningly beautiful game. But my first knee jerk reaction to the stealth based combat: I died a few times. Dis game is teh suck!

Then I came back after dinner when I wasn't feeling rushed and started to play it like I was supposed to. And oh man did this game get all kinds of fun. Jumping off a high cliff and stabbing a robot dinosaur and insta killing it? The most satisfying thing ever.
