Dragon Quest Builders

Anyone else interested in this? Demo is up on PSN - link

Seems to be getting some good hype. I'm going to try the demo, but this might be a day one purchase for me. Seems neat and whimsical

I had no idea there was a demo; downloading that now. I watched an IGN preview of this last week and added it to my Amazon Wish List. I guess I'll see how the demo grabs me. Thanks for the info!

Great time to be a Dragon Quest fan. DQVII is fantastic and this looks equally pleasing. VIII re-release on the 3DS is on the horizon, too.

Any word on whether this will get a PC port, like DQ Heroes? I'm interested, but have no PS4/Vita.

So, I played some of the demo last night (maybe 30-45 minutes worth). I enjoyed it. I just didn't want to play anymore in case I have to replay it all when I get the full game.

It tickled all the right things for me. Scavenging, building, collecting, little quests. I'm not sure how deep it will be, but it was very relaxing to play and will definitely fill that role in my library.

I would definitely say there is a chance because of DQ Heroes.

I put in about an hour into the demo and have enjoyed it so far. Still plenty more to learn and experience before putting a final word on it. As with the console version of Minecraft its biggest issue is how difficult it is to place blocks correctly. Lining them up takes far more time than I would like, and is nowhere near as clear or simple as the PC version of Minecraft.

One of my biggest issues so far is that the block outline that indicates where a block or blueprint is placed doesn't pop up until you place it. Sometimes I'll have to place a block before getting that outline to come up, and then have a stray block that I have to remove. The blueprints are also very difficult to place. I'd prefer if maybe the game would pause and allow you to make minor adjustments to the placement of it rather than extending from your chest every time and flipping around the screen when you try to move one space over or back.

It's a pretty slow beginning, but does a pretty good job of walking you through the story and the basics of being a builder. As of right now I'm keeping it on my Wish List and will give it another hour or two tonight.

Yah! I meant to say it was finicky. I did find, for walls, it was easier to place a block, then jump on top of it. Then you can aim down and hold the build button, push forward, and build a line easily.

I'm also a little annoyed that the jump button is the 'O' button.

I wish walls could overlap. Why can't I use a pre-existing wall as part of a blueprint?!

Edit: just finished the demo. Started up my PS4 and it was just sitting there, so I kept playing. Not a very long demo, but I did enjoy it and glad I tried it.

Completely agree. Filling in a hole works better if you are one block higher and use R1. To build a 2-high wall, walking backwards holding square seems to work well. And I also hate circle as the jump button, and cross as the menu. Just feels off, but easy enough to adjust to.

Totally. Should be smart enough to check the space above to ensure it's the correct materials.

I can understand a short demo. I think you get a feel for whether or not you'll be interested pretty quickly.

Make someone else buy it for you. That's what Amazon Wish Lists are for.

I'm a little disappointed I can't bypass the demo content.

Okay, bypassed the demo stuff and have put another probably 8 hours into it. I'm really enjoying it. When part of the game gets a little tedious, it introduces a mechanic that simplifies things...also, once you get the storage chest upgrade, you start to realize just how much there is to collect.

Just loving this game so far.

Great to hear. I've only heard positive things so far. Hoping to be able to pick it up early next year.

I must have about 10-15 hours into the game. Maybe a little less, but I still haven't completed the first chapter yet (though, I'm close). Tons of little secrets around in this game for you to find.

One thing that really surprises me is the game world persistence. I can break a block through a portal and come back days later and the resource is still sitting there ready to be collected. I've stumbled across blocks I've broken 8 hours ago that still have the material just sitting there. Just a neat thing you don't see much of.

Man, chapter 3 really drags on. I just got the 3rd (green) gate. I feel like the difficulty of the monsters really ramped up on this one.

Finished chapter 3 and started chapter 4. This is my favourite chapter so far. They really leave you on your own and even introduce new mechanics to make your life tougher, in a good way. I found chapter 3 to be too much of the same stuff you encounter in chapters 1/2. This final chapter is worth plowing through 3.
