IIRC the textures were vectors. Same with Sunshine, which also looks insane on emulators.

I need to find my Nintendo 3DS and look into my name. I swore ArmoredXerxes was me as well as having the correct friend code. Nintendo's online system is just a mess for me.

I don't think the 3DS ties into the name bit, does it? I didn't tie a name to my Nintendo ID until I had the Wii U. 3DS was just a friend code, and the "name" associated to it was more or less irrelevant.

(EDIT: I mean, I have a name on my 3DS, and that's what I get called on somebody else's friend list whenever they register my friend code, but that name is not my Nintendo ID. That's a new thing I set up when I first logged into Wii U.)

Correct, the 3DS doesn't support Nintendo ID's yet. It's supposed to come at some point.

I don't know about Sunshine but Wind Waker was definitely bitmap art, drawn sparsely to look like vector art. You can tell when you look at the shield or other more decorative stuff.

Sorry to derail further (it's what I do?) but we discussed Wind Waker HD. This Polycount thread uses the Dolphin emulator to look at the textures as well as all kinds of interesting design choices they made back then. Most mind-blowing fact for me is that the cloth was actually fully simulated, not pre-rendered. Most games still don't do that, it's expensive.

Also, Nintendo artists are fucking gods.

Unrelated, Need for Speed: Most Wanted U is actually really good, and you can get it for super cheap now because apparently it did not sell very well.

If you're in the mood for a non-cart racer and haven't picked it up, it's an easy recommend.

They really are. I'm catching up on New Super Mario Bros U and hot damn is that ever one big affirming display of human creativity.
