Super Mario Galaxy 2 - The Thread

I searched but I didn't see an official thread for this game. Not sure how...

Anyway, it looks like the reviews are starting to pour in. I'm getting the impression that Nintendo has outdone themselves:

http://www.metacritic.com/games/plat...ermariogalaxy2

Perfect scores from Edge, IGN, and 1Up, 97 from Gametrailers. I already had it pre-ordered from Amazon and had kinda forgotten about it but now I'm getting incredibly excited.

I have a bunch of design work to get done this weekend and if I do this game is my reward on Sunday. Tempted to check out the event happening at the NYC Nintendo Store. Charles Martinet, voice of all the Mario plumbers, will be there.

I find myself going to GameTrailers for video reviews often. I like Edge and Eurogamer's print stuff, but GT's video reviews really well done.

I love how every reviewer goes out of their way to say that the game is not an expansion pack, or re-tread, or Galaxy 1.5.

Orc! I know you're out there, and this whole unemployment thing was a ploy so that you'd beat me again at being the first to finish Galaxy! Arrgggghhhhhhhhh!

I still have to finish the first SMG. I'm hoping Sunday's release will drive used prices down so I can pick up a copy. Once I play through that, I'll probably pick this up as I've really been in the mood for this style of game.

Doctor Setebos created a thread during the time of its E3 announcement last year.

I really shouldn't buy it, I've bought three games in the past two weeks (though, one was at least bargain bin), but it's hard not to. I adored the first game; it's probably one of my favorite games of all time. I think I'm going to have to bite the bullet and pick it up.

Just beat the first world and got my first Grand Star; good stuff so far. Looks like each world gets it's own skybox.

Just picked it up. The update is installing right now, and possibly killing my homebrew.

Oh well!

And thus far, most levels seem to have two stars, so that means more levels. Assuming more stars don't get unlocked later.

Pretty sure it's 120 stars and 120 Comet Coins. I'm 20 stars in, and this is easily shaping up to better than Super Mario Galaxy. I get a little sad every time I get a star knowing I'm closer to the end.

I don't know what the ceiling is to this game in my personal list, but it's way up there.

Brilliant, elegant, genius, evil, simple design. This series is singlehandedly keeping the platformer relevant in my opinion.

Love the difficulty, too. Closer to Sunshine than Galaxy 1 on that front.

Are you sure? Did you troubleshoot it with Google or Nintendo?

Yeah it's troubleshot via Google and Nintendo. Mind you, Nintendo's site wasn't much help on the matter. "Repair or Replace". Well thanks

Any game is loaded, it comes up with An Error has occurred, remove disk and restart the system. Happens for every game. When I insert WiiFit, I get a horrible grinding noise on the drive.

That sucks, dude. Nintendo should be helpful. Conversely, you can look up someone at your local indie game store, even a modder on Craigslist. Someone HAS to have Wii drives.

I'm at 21 stars and really enjoying it. My only complaint so far is the lame motion control bird level and the "secret stars" which often give you no clue what you have to do to obtain them. It seems that some of them are about collecting all the coins in a level?

I liked the bird level, but I also liked ray surfing and that monkey-ball knock-off in the last game. As for the secret stars, you often need to feed a Hungry Luma X amount of coins or stars. Then they turn into a planet, and a jump point appears so that you can get to it. You earn the star on that extra world, sometimes it's something simple like any other planetoid, sometimes it's a boss.

The hungry luma ones are easy. But there are others that, unless I'm missing something, have no hungry Luma. Like the first hot pepper Yoshi level. I made it to the top of the tower and there is a dude there there that said "From here you can see that every coin matters," but when I tried collecting every coin (which was extremely hard with all the pepper Yoshi sections), nothing happened.
