[]The Wii successor is confirmed to have a sort of SD/HD combination feature, which If I'm understanding this properly, sounds(?) like it may be able to swap between resolutions depending on the game/television set,etc.[/]

Of course, you'd probably want the english version of the latest Q&A with Nintendo.

I would love for a Wii HD that looks like the stuff they're showing off with the Dolphin Wii emulator on the PC.

Interesting, but if they're "in talks", they sure aren't coming out in 2010.

Even if they do manage to get it out in 2010, Nintendo's production of the Wii HD will be about 20 units per month (if they follow their early Wii production output model).

Give them some credit. They had the fastest first year sales of any console ever. That's going to make your production hard to get on top of.

I have to think the "Wii successor" they are talking about in that article is something different than the rumored Wii-HD. I wish they would get their act together on the Wii-HD because I've been wanting to get a Wii. I just don't want to buy it now and have the Wii-HD announcement come out a few weeks later.

The talk of using a bluray drive makes me think this is bullshirt.

Nintendo are usually a couple of generations behind with their storage.

No, they're usually 1 generation behind. Which would make a Bluray drive perfect for their next-gen console.

I could definitely see the Wii 2 with a Blu-ray drive. Prices have dropped on the drives and it would definitely be faster than the PS3's slow BR drive.

Wait, what makes ya think they'll put a Blu-ray player in there when none of their consoles had a DVD player, except for the one Panasonic made in Japan.

Well, the speculation is that the next system will be an HD system, and what other HD media are you going to use besides Blu-ray?

So maybe they'll use Blu-Ray discs but, just like the Wii, it won't play movies. I don't know, I just don't think Nintendo has ever cared about movie formats and they ain't about to start now.

Well, sure. I agree with you there. I don't think anyone here is talking about movies. We're just talking disc storage format.

Considering that Intel has OFFICIALLY labeled the Larrabee as a pipedream, and cancelled the project... I'm going to go on ahead and call bullshit on this one.

Even if it is true, there's no way this is coming out within the next 5 years.

Minor de-rail: Where did you read that the entire Larrabee project was cancelled?

You should've read the reason. They canceled it because the end result of the research was a product that was significantly inferior to what was already on the market. So performance became an additional challenge on top of having a completely new architecture to program for.

And the console makers really wouldn't be betting on technology that doesn't even have functional examples available yet, now would they? It's far easier to just go to Nvidia or ATI instead.

I won't disagree with the reason you listed, H.
