Damn, I actually just read that article Avnovice.

Did they actually say 30-40 years? Bit too much I think.... not that I'd really touch a FF7 remake since I'm never big on remakes of any sort. Stilll, it's interesting, as I recall reading a similar article where one of the developers was stating the reasoning behind there being 'no towns' in FF13 was due to the level of graphical detail in FF13.

FF13 was pretty, no doubt about that, but I wonder if they've reached a line at how good looking you can make something before it starts to effect the rest of the game, or at least the development time. You could probably say that about any game, since a larger game world is much easier in a simple graphical term (see Dwarf fortress!) but I wouldn't have imagined at the current graphical rate it would extend the development time of a game like FF7 to such a lenght.

(Rumored) Details: (Andriasang, sourced from Game Jouhou)

Quote:
•The game's cloud effects use real physics calculations

•The world is an open field, and you can go everywhere except for the mountains

•The battles are seamless

•The game's encounter system is both random and symbol-based (meaning you can see enemies in advance). Hmm... what could this mean?

•The game's world is mostly seamless, although there are some load points when you switch between the massive areas.

•You can destroy objects that you find on the road.

•The quality of the combat scenes is so high that people will not be able to believe it when they first see it.

•The staff is excited about making the game.
And possibly (rumored) new information at Tokyo Game Show 2010.

Some of those sound rather intriguing.

Also, the staff excited about making the game made me chuckle.

Open worlds sounds good!

The environments, really. It has that dirty modern/near future look to it, it reminds me of Midgar.

Details taken from this week's Famitsu. (Andriasang)

Quote:
Most of the discussion focused on three new screenshots. It will be a bit tough to follow most of this summary without seeing the screens for yourself, but here are some textual descriptions.

•1. A scene of main character Noctis standing on a cliff, looking out over a vast field, with a highway directly below, a desert clearing in the distance, and mountains in the far distance. The caption for this notes that you can walk as far as you can see.

•2. A scene of Noctis standing in front of a gas station. In the caption for this scene, the magazine notes that one of the themes of the game is a "road movie."

•3. A scene of Noctis facing off against a giant creature in a city-like scene. The visuals here look extremely modern -- you can see crosswalks and even bike lanes marked off on the road below. It looks like an in-game version of Tokyo, except for the giant beast.
Quote:
Nomura shared some details on a screen-by-screen basis.

Regarding the gasoline and field screen, Famitsu noted that the game's sky color is finely detailed. Nomura said first that they're using true physics calculations for the movement of the clouds. He also noted that it took the staff a while to determine the visual direction they would take with the game. They could do all sorts of different visual styles by changing such things as filters and sunlight color.

Regarding the field screenshot, Nomura said that the field is an "open field," meaning you can walk through "nearly everything" shown in the field screenshot except for the mountains. He also said, "If you want to go to the end, it's truly far."

Regarding the city scene with the beast, Nomura pointed out that the beast is a military-use behemoth. It has a giant sword on its back.

The city scene is actually a battle screen. Normally, it would have a command menu and other information.

I was always more interested in Versus than 13, since it looked like it was going to try something different with the formular. So far it's looking good enough to renew a little of my faith in Sqeenix.

Bit worrying about all the cloud talk though.

Is there an expected release date at all? I remember when 12 was coming out and people thought were gonna get back to back to back year releases of FF titles. I really don't want to wait until 2014 for this game. Esp since 13 was a huge disappointment.

Looks a lot more interesting than the last outing. But I´ll reserve judgement for when we actually see some gameplay, cause I didn´t see much of that in 13+P

Tell me you don't think of Fallout 3 when you look at that Gas Station shot. This game was a definitely purchase already, but now I'm really really curious about how Squeenix is gonna do an "open world" FF.

Command menu?

BLAH I thought they were going real time fighting with this. DISAPPOINT! Was hoping for crazy dissidia game play using the ps3 hardware.

Oh well this'll still be fun so long as the EXPAND on the mechanics.

It's being made by the Kingdom Hearts team, so expect something alone the lines of a more polished Kingdom Hearts 2 fighting system. Well, that would make sense anyway from the way they've talked about it in the past.

Previous high-quality scans. (Gaming Everything)

Edit: Tossed in the full translated interview off of the (Famitsu) scan, as well as posting the scan itself, from Scrawl FX.

While the Dengeki PlayStation interview is largely the same as that of the Famitsu (scan) interview, some new details have been revealed on the scenario and character designs. (Nova Crystallis)

Quote:
By far the most important thing, is that the game’s scenario is now completed. Not much was elaborated on, but we can only assume that means the entire script and story have been fleshed out and finalized.

Character designs are also finished. We saw Noctis’ redesigned outfit back in December so it looks like we’ll soon see what has become of Stella and the other characters featured in trailers past. Naturally, this also means that Roen has completed the game’s clothing designs.

The games complete.

The release date is 2027 though, since they need the time to finish texturing the clouds and making sure they move and change shape like real clouds.
