I recently got into Dota for the first time and am finally understanding how to really play. Man it's addicting....

So they're doing a Dota2 Halloween event: Diretide. The normal arena has been spruced up with some Halloween cheer, but the real draw is the Diretide mode, which the page doesn't do a great job of explaining. But it's actually kind of fun. Here's how it works.
- Instead of the normal waves of creeps, you get all Halloween-type creeps: ghosts, goblins, trolls, etc. When you defeat a wave two pieces of candy drop. If you're killed, you drop all of your candy. - Each piece of candy you hold reduces your max health. The real goal is to drop the candy in your bucket, which is near the river for each side. - After a while Roshan becomes active, and starts hunting random members of each team. He keeps hunting them until they either die, or give him a piece of candy. So at this point you always want to have at least 1 piece of candy on you or else. You can also attack your opponents' candy bucket and steal their stash. - All this time there's a scoreboard keeping track of how much candy each side has deposited. After a while of Roshan enters Sugar Rush mode, and each player is given a shit load of gold, with the team that deposited the most candy getting a lot more. - Roshan then goes nuts, and all players have to team up to kill him. - In the end you get essences, which can be placed into eggs which will presumably hatch at the end of the event into an item of some sort. If anyone wants to get a team going for Diretide, hit me up on Steam.

I've played soooooo much Diretide and I'm only going to play more. What Doc didn't explain is that you are GUARANTEED 1-2 random cosmetic items or essences every single time you play, and the game generally takes <30 minutes. That's in addition to random drops (I got a War Dog randomly last night!). There's no restriction on how rare those guaranteed items can be, either.

I think I've discovered how to play Witch Doctor as a carry.
This after a game in which I was forced to take mid with WD while my team had a Templar Assassin, Faceless Void and Tidehunter. We got smoked, but I had 5 of my team's 7 kills.
