Just ask Mags. He'll point you towards something that might make a lick of sense out of that game

God knows I've tried to get into it, but I just haven't had the time or energy to really buckle down and study the intricacies the way I feel I need to.

Learning the game isn't so much the problem. I went to school on it in a big way. A couple hours of video, wiki open alongside, etc.

Like I wrote in the DF thread, it's more the painful non-interface and the lack of control. It's like I'm watching the game play itself, and just pounding on keys to make suggestions.

I played the demo for that the other day. It's pretty fun, although it kind of made me just want to fire up Dwarf Fortress again. Still, if I had the money ($7), I'd probably pick it up. Towns also got another couple of updates recently, but it still feels very much like an alpha.

Not having direct control is a big part of the game. I actually really like that aspect. The dwarves have their own personalities instead of just being automatons. I can see how some (including yourself) might find that frustrating, but for me that's part of the appeal of the game.

Edit - Why did you edit your post? I found your anecdote amusing.

I get that the indirect control is a feature, and I don't really need to be able to move a dwarf myself to enjoy the game. Just a finer set of commands would be nice. "Make a stone door out of this particular stone," or "build this wall without trapping yourself on the wrong side of it."

Maybe it'd be DF sacrilege, but how about a Sims style layer? Go about your business the rest of the time, dwarf, but right now do this.

There are ways to do those things, of course, but as you noted they are not simple. I agree that the interface could use a lot of improvement. I doubt we'll see that anytime soon, however.

After 120 hours I'm finally nearing the end of Xenoblade Chronicles. Then I gotta look into all the side stuff, well, what's left of it.

Edit: Dolphin crashed on me, which I kinda expected. It was stuttering a lot during a major boss fight. It kept beating my ass anyways...

So, at the convention I found out that I am not, in fact, the only person who missed the hosted movie shows that were so common up until the 90's (Elvira, Joe Bob Briggs... etc). I met a couple of women who do a show called The Midnight Mausoleum on public access. I bought a couple of their DVDs, but unfortunately, we don't have dick as far as public access goes in this state.

Fortunately, I live in the fucking future, and can summon public access channels from across the country, through the ether and into my computitron, to watch these shows as they air I'm streaming it from here if you want to check it out.
