We got no drunk thread anymore, so the shitposting happens here.

Here's the thing about language exchange events. Meat markets. Tourists flock to them and it's packed to the fucking rafters with guys just hoping for a chance to sneeze on a Japanese woman. And either their Japanese is really good or they're sweatermuscles McGhee. Makes it tough to find anyone to even chat with.

And they don't have the GODDAMN decency to include shochu on the drink menu.

What is shochu?

Was letting gamespot videos play in the background while I got ready for work this morning and a few Nier Automata videos played. I picked it up on the way to work...

That's my life, right now. Granted, I never really have the time for 12-hour gaming sessions, but what time I can find is dogged by an academically-minded Jiminy Cricket.

Once I get my master's, I may need some serious coaching just to remember I'm a gamer still.

Good luck with that. Being a student ruined me as a gamer. Oh well, it's probably much healthier this way.

Speaking of health, I've had a cold all week. I blame Chris. I thought it was getting better, but today it's suddenly even worse. What the heck? Ugh, I was supposed to go to the opera this evening, but now I'm going to reschedule. I just want to lay in bed all day.

I've had something like 5 colds this winter, way more than usual. I blame the constantly changing weather. I cannot recall ever experiencing a winter where the temperature fluctuated so much.

Really? I had way more time for games as a student than I do now. Although, I guess that has more to do with the wife and kids than anything else.

I did very little gaming when I was in college. Too much homework, group projects, etc. I still did some, of course, just less than before.

Of course the lack of money didn't help.

I just find that I rarely want to play for more than a few hours at a time. I am a very high energy individual and I get antsy and can't sit still anymore. I have the same problem with movies.

Last time I can remember playing for than maybe 3 to 4 hours, which I admit is still a very long session, was when I got into Fallout 4 and couldn't tear myself away for those couple of weeks. Definitely the last time I played a game all day.

Have I ever played a game all day? Depends on how you define all day probably.

I would define it as a work shift, 8 hours at least. I vividly remember playing Oblivion, Tales of Symphonia and Civ IV from like 6 am to at least midnight when I was playing those. Can't really recall too many others, but I have played through some shorter games like Max Payne in a day as a challenge to myself.

I mean, I wouldn't be surprised if I've put 8 hours into a game in one day at some point... but I also wouldn't be surprised if I haven't

Those ridiculously long sessions stick out in my mind for that very reason; they are rare.

I had a roommate in college who just lived like that. He had classes and a part time job, but his free time and weekends were only ever spent playing games. He would put in all day sessions every day off and spend any given evening playing as much as I might spend the whole week.

I used to do those longer sessions fairly often, especially on the weekends. It was usually with those "just one more thing" games like Age of Wonders, Civ, and Dwarf Fortress. Any strategy or building sim.

I took down the big Turtle in FFXV and got my third platinum trophy. It took me a bit over an hour. I probably could have done it a wee bit quicker but I got bored about 40 minutes in and just started warp striking between two warp points. I wish developers would realize that pumping up the HP to make a battle take forever isn't necessarily exciting for the player. The reveal was the most exciting thing in the game though.

Now I feel like I can give BOTW a good run and see if it sticks or not. TBH, it has not so far. It has a pretty art style to it but frame rates and constantly breaking weapons is dampening the experience for me.

No need for a drunk thread when just about anything is discussed here. Besides some of the topics discussed seem like no one is sober but we are

Yeah, you won't see your game systems ever really. Work post-master's degree will consume you. I know you will go into the research end of stuff plus teaching, i've known some who have. I think my work life is busy, I think about some of those stories than I realize I get a chance to breathe now and then.

Well i defeated my monster of a bedroom mattress. I wish I recorded myself taking down this mattress, almost killing myself and/or anything it its path. At one point I thought my 70 inch tv was going to be toast due to the mattress almost taking it out. Granted, doing this by myself probably wasn't the best idea, but it was time to get rid of this thing. Then of course is the thought of removing something you shared with someone for umpteen years who you no longer share a life with...yeah that was fun. I then finished off the room ripping out the rest of the carpet. I wasn't in the mood for much gaming after that, but dulling my senses with enough tv, I think i'll go play Persona 4G now.
