Try sticking with tank jobs. Road hog can self heal.

Soldier 76 can do that as well, I use him a lot. But Widowmaker... I found she works well for me. Long distance death to help my team.

Soldier 76's super power is to turn the game into Call of Duty.

Yeah, but that's the only thing I don't suck at.

Soldier 76 is a totally respectable character to play, so long as you use him to support your teammates. Throwing that heal area down around a corner from an objective can make a huge difference.

As an occasional Roadhog and Reinhardt, I love a good medicy-shootery Soldier 76. That is how you hold objectives.

See I get that's part of his strategy, I just forget to drop it at the right time. Usually it's when I'M hurting. There is no Team in me I guess.

It helps if you go to options -> controls -> customize -> soldier 76 in the drop down list -> enable health bars for team mates check box

Yeah, some of the character specific options are really useful. I set Mercy so she will fly to whoever I'm pointing at instead of the default where she favors your current healing target.

Big one for me was adjusting Widowmaker's mouse sensitivity while scoped.

I did that but then I was already used to how they already handled it and went back to default

It was overtime. Team just got wiped out as I was running back. I swoop in from above and penta rez behind a reaper that was facing the wrong way. Then the other team died and the words victory spilled across the screen.

Saw a Reinhardt get a Quadra kill team wipe. He hit them all with a clean stun ult and I threw in the zarya ult to make sure they couldn't escape.

It was glorious.

Huh. My Mercy's dream scenario is where my team doesn't scatter in 5 different directions, all shouting for help and wondering why I can't fly through walls.

I think that's one thing we could do more effectively when playing as a CoG group: holding onto then chaining our ultimates. Throwing out with 2-3 ultimates in sequence is often the key to breaking a strong defense.
