Mass Effect Andromeda Launch Trailer

EA and Bioware have released what they're calling the launch trailer for Mass Effect Andromeda. The game formally launches next week, but if you're an EA Access member you can play through the first 10 hours of the game starting tomorrow. Eurogamer has also posted a 'story so far...' article to get you up (or back up) to speed on what's happened in the series to date.

So some of y'all with EA access who played it; is it as bad as it looks?

It's janky as fuck and the first couple hours are pretty rough but once you get passed the beginning it gets better. Not everyone is animated or acted as bad as a couple of those starting characters.

It's a fun game but it's a stereotypical video game RPG, with sub par (so far) video game writing and sub par (in some cases) video game acting. Not quite the quality I'd expect from a flagship AAA RPG but after the 10 hour demo was up I wanted more and I'll likely be buying it in the first couple weeks of launch.

If The Witcher 3 is a nice 18oz New York strip from a fancy steak house then ME:A is a buy one get one free steak combo from some place like Applebees. It sure as hell isn't the best but you can do a hell of a lot worse, especially if you enjoy steak.

I watched the GB stream of the first couple hours. Facial animation aside, even when things are working they look a little off. Everyone moves like they're nothing but jelly poured into a rubber suit.

I'm disappointed to see ME:A is in such rough shape. Not because I plan to play it, but because a friend from highschool was a designer on it and has been excitedly showing it off on Facebook. He's a great guy and I have no doubt he worked his ass off, but none of that will matter because their characters move like Thermians.

A bit disappointed by the negative buzz, but I will not be deterred! Still really looking forward to this.

Aye I heard the facial animations and writing are horrendous also.

It's not quite enough to keep me from buying but I've got other gaming on my plate so no hurry.

All this crap I'm reading about the game worries me. I'm pre-ordered, but ultimately if it can't hold my attention after all the wonkiness and bad writing, I'm returning this and getting Nier instead.

I actually really enjoy many mid-budget European RPGs (Spiders and Piranha Bytes RPGs are Day 1 purchases), so none of the complaints are deal breakers. Then again I felt that Inquisition was a bit of a trainwreck, so we shall see.

I got my refund after all. I read the RockPaperShotgun articles and decided I was better off waiting for a sale or something.

I've read the RPS article and played the game and while they aren't technically wrong I also felt they blew things out of proportion and greatly exaggerated a few things to make it sound like they encompassed the entire game. There were also a few things they dwelled on that I probably wouldn't have even noticed, or at the very least thought to myself "well, that was stupid" and moved on if they didn't make such a big deal out of it.

I felt there was quite a bit of hyperbole involved with the 1st RPS article, but I've heard the same themes repeated over most of the first impressions on the web; good combat, mediocre writing, glitchy animations, and a slow, trudging start. That, and watching footage on Twitch, was enough for me to cancel my preorder.

I'll play it eventually, of course. But my excitement has dampened bigly.

Wow really?

Thinking back to inquisition and how I have forgotten anything relevant only remembering varric's silly erotic novel quest I can definitely believe it. And I have done 2 full playthroughs!

David Gaider didn't write this one either and the writing seems even worse.

That's a shame.

Mother!

This is perhaps the only game I was super-duper into this year (I even pre-ordered the Deluxe version!). I have been avoiding any and all talk about it, then saw this thread.

I'll be disappointed if after all this time the game stinks. I'm tempted to cancel my pre-order, even more tempted to read these articles you speak of.

Why is everyone so baby faced in this game?

I have no idea why but I have not been at all excited for this game, and I loved the original trilogy. Still a wait and see situation I suppose.

I'm not going to shit on it but I have to admit what I've seen it looks worse than the predecessors. I'll try it one day but it's a sale for me.

Welp, I cancelled my pre-order. Horizon Zero Dawn will keep me busy for a long while, and I've never been more than a one-game-at-a-time person anyway. The negative press coming out for this was too much, I'm hoping by the time I'm ready to play it there will be patches galore fixing a lot of the issues I saw (l caved and watched some videos).

If I hadn't gotten HZD I would have kept it, but those two things combined were a good reason to cancel.

I don't think it will be the worst thing. I enjoyed dragon age inquisition but after the witcher 3 and how amazing it became when you hit the city that became a non-stop I can't wait to see what happens next til the end...it's ruff.

After these reviews and my experience with the demo this is a must buy for me; I'll be playing this day one.
