Fire Emblem: Heroes

It looks like enough of us are playing to warrant a thread. Share your exciting hero draws! Give and receive tips! Discuss strategies for earning currencies and winning special battles!

The game is currently free on Android and iOS, with in-app purchases for Orb items which are used to unlock characters and work around the usual F2P timers. Despite that, it's a game you can definitely enjoy without paying a penny as the battles are the main draw and even grinding out exp in training missions is entertaining.

Has anyone else attempted the special mission to unlock the character Narcian on Hard? It has posed the biggest challenge so far for me. I spent loads of stamina and probably ten attempts before I managed to puzzle my way to a hard fought victory. It's especially hard as since it's a character unlock mission you FAIL if even a single character of yours dies. There's no room for sacrificing a unit or making a mistake.

Here's the map with someone else's characters:

Here was my strategy:

I used a 4* lvl 37 Camilla, 4* lvl 20 Lissa, 5* lvl 39 Lucina and 5* lvl 38 Cordelia.

Positioned Camilla three spaces from archer, Lissa below her, Lucina to her left, and Cordelia just outside the choke point range of the Red Swordsman.

On my engaging turn Camilla killed archer and Cordelia moved one space up to draw Swordsman aggro. Camilla survives attacks, while Cordelia counters the Swordsman down to 10hp and an attack from the Blue mage.

Fight turn two Camilla retreats and gets healed. Cordelia falls back 2 spaces south. Narcian follows and attacks Camilla, Red Swordsman follows and dies to Cordelia's counter. Blue and Green mages start to head toward choke.

Fight turn 3 Lissa heals Camilla again. Camilla goes west and north to wait next to Narcian. Lucina steps in and kills Narcian. Cordelia retreats to safe zone. On the enemy turn Camilla's position baits the Green Mage down to attack her but she survives. Blue Mage heads through choke. Lucina waits, Cordelia continues retreating to safety.

From there I was able to heal Camilla, send her over to kill the Blue Mage while the Green Mage lagged behind, then on my next turn swap Camilla and Lucina's positions so she could take care of the Green Mage.

I've only barely scratched the surface of this, but it kinda made me just want to play a Fire Emblem on 3DS. Not that the game is bad, I just prefer using a control stick to my fingers.

As a game, though, it seems like one of the best F2P titles I've ever seen.

This game came along at the best possible time for me, as I just finished playing through the third storyline from Fire Emblem: Fates a few days before Fire Emblem: Heroes released. So until a new full-scale Fire Emblem game comes out this is great to fill the gap.

Quick question: how is death handled in this game? Is it proper perma-death, or do they simply get taken out for the current battle?

Dying means that character is out of the battle and loses any XP or level ups they received that battle but are not gone forever.

Since the game isn't strictly campaign based and characters are so tough to unlock permadeath would have made it unplayable.

I wish there was an in-game way to earn orbs other than plot advancement.

Yeah. I'm almost done with the Lunatic missions and once that happens my new orb supply is going to slow to a trickle. There's a mission that will give me some, and at the moment the daily check-in bonus, but the latter will eventually end and then what? It'll be really lame if I'm essentially stuck with no regular way to collect new orbs outside of waiting for the next content drop to hit.

If that happens my interest in playing regularly will dry up quickly.

The first paralogue story chapter has been added. 3 levels and the standard 3 difficulties so there's an opportunity to earn 9 orbs. There's also a new launch celebration special map with 2 difficulties, each offering a first-clear reward of 3 orbs. Altogether that's 3/4 of the way to a full character pull.

There's also a quest for one of the paralogue chapters that gives another orb.

couldn't have come at a better time, just got two stronger versions of my main team and have had to build them back up after merging my leveled versions into them.

Lots of orbs on offer this week. Special Launch Map gives 3 for Normal and 3 for hard. New quests designed around making teams of all 1-type (4 swords, 4 lances, 4 axes) provide 6 more orbs overall.

where the heck do you find the special quests though? Do you need to make the all-one-weapon team before they appear?

All quests show up in the fountain at the bottom-right of your base screen. You have to click the arrows on the top to the sides of the quest names to cycle through the different categories.

Ah, ok... I was thinking there were specific missions or something, you just have to complete any mission using the right criteria, got it.

Most of the quests want you to defeat a specific mission in either Story or Training with a party all of one type. The orb-quests are the easiest ones, thankfully.

A Spring holiday event has begun, with 3 new story maps (at 3 difficulties) and new versions of characters to unlock: Xander, Camilla, Chrom, and Lucina all dressed in bunny/Easter themes. Interestingly these characters also use different weapons than their originals (Camilla, typically a green axe user is a green tome user instead).

I managed to pull Spring Xander, at 5 stars no less!

Unlike the Overwatch events, I don't feel like I need any of these variants. I'll stick with my normal versions and may just horde orbs until the event is over
