Halo Anime, Assassins' Creed 2 Live Action Shorts Announced

You thought the big movie/gaming story of the week would be the announcement of Sam Raimi as director of a Warcraft movie? Well...you're right. But it's not the only intersection between the mediums this week. In a far reaching story about the confluence of gaming and cinema, LA Times' Ben Fritz has revealed plans for an anime based on Halo and a series of live action shorts setting up Assassins' Creed II.

The recently formed 343 Industries - the Microsoft division which now oversees the Halo franchise - is overseeing Halo Legends, a series of seven animated shorts being produced by some of Japan's leading animation studios. If this sounds somewhat familiar, it should. Warner Bros did something similar with the Animatrix and Batman: Gotham Knight this decade. The difference here is that no Hollywood studio is involved in the process.

Ubisoft's Assassins' Creed II shorts are similarly devoid of Tinsletown's influence. The three 10-15 minute shorts are being created by much the same people who are working on the game - writers, designers and even the mo-cap actors are being used in the shorts, which will function as prologues to the game. The AC II shorts are set to be released around the time of the game's November 17 launch, while Halo Legends should see the light of day sometime in 2010.

More of ACII of any kind is good news. Maybe it will lend a hand to understanding the muddled plot a bit more

As I mentioned in the Animu thread, a Halo anime gets a thumbs-up from me. They get to avoid the pitfalls associated with live-action shows and I'm all for more stories based in the Halo universe.

no, for cortana to be anime...she needs to have a really short skirt that never rises above the line of demarcation.

either way, i'd probably watch it. As long as the Spartan units are ruthless killing machines, there is no queer teenagers in love subplot and lots and lot of aliens die.
