Ground Branch (Tactical FPS)

I have no idea why I haven't posted this here before... But for those that miss Rainbow Six, SWAT, Ghost Recon, etc....

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/.../ground-branch

Here is a nice video showing gameplay, music, and level design.

I did an interview with them, I will post the URL as soon as I get the reply.

I wish I thought they had a chance of success, but they're less than 25% funded with 5 days to go.

I wish some dev's would help these folks out. I know there is that "kicking it forward" initiative, but I wish this one had notch throwing in some money or the folks at double fine. Just people with STUPID amounts of money.

I specifically asked him/them what they will do if/when it fails.

The only reason I'm not backing this project is because it's multi-player only. I'd love to see something like this with a proper single-player campaign with the option for co-op but I doubt that will ever happen.

From the page:

There will be full multiplayer (objective-based TvT, PvP) and core single player/co-operation gameplay (e.g. terrorist hunt against bots) from the start. An intricate full-scale SP/Co-Op campaign and advanced AI will be added (Free to KS minimum reward backers and up) after release.
At about 25% funded with 30 hours to go, though, I think it's a moot point.

Yah, it's too bad. I love the idea, but apparently not enough people do.

it isn't a moot point. If you are interested in this game, please back it.

The devs are trying extremely hard to hit 2K backers, around 120 away right now. I thing the numbers they end up with will dictate if the attempt further funding or get further funding. PLEASE back it and spread the word.

. We are coming down to the last day and a half of our Kickstarter campaign. Let's keep pushing to see how far we can get. We have all done a great job so far so let's keep going a little while longer.Let's win some smaller battles as things wind down. Let's start by getting 2,000 backers.

There are a lot of positives to finishing the Kickstarter campaign strong. So let's keep it up for a little while longer and make up some serious ground!

Had a brief exchange on Twitter with nab about this - I hope they get to 2,000 backers if that's what they want, but I'm not sure I understand why they want it. If $400,000 is what they need to make the game they want to make, having 2,000 backers doesn't get them the money, nor does it seem a large enough number to excite a publisher into giving them the cash. They raised $100K - that's no small potatoes, but it's a quarter of what they say they need.

I don't think it's Kickstarter fatigue. I think this is a genre with niche appeal that it's genuinely tough to get people excited about and standing in line with their dollars. Takedown just barely met their funding goal, and that was months ago when Kickstarter was at the height of its hype train, AND they asked for half as much money. It was also a similar enough project to Ground Branch (in terms of what they say they were trying to do and who they have doing it) that it's that much harder now to justify funding another for twice the price.

I'm sure there are folks out there with a whole long list of reasons why Ground Branch is totally different and nothing like Takedown at all, but they're similar enough that I can't readily discern the difference, and as a pretty devout PC enthusiast I'm lukewarm enough about the tactical FPS genre that I didn't back either of them.

I hope they can get their game made, if people want it. I don't think there's $400,000 of support out there for it, though.

No, the version of the game being funded is multi-player only. IF this game got made then down the road IF they ended up doing a single player campaign then backers would get it for free.

This is multi-player only.

Unfortunately these guys are just asking for way too much money. They need to figure out how to get the game made with a smaller budget (like around $150k) and relaunch the Kickstarter project with that goal.

Honestly, from both a realism and tactical point of view I have a strong feeling that Ground Branch would blow the doors off of Takedown but Takedown would, overall, be a funner game.

Just a gut feeling.
