Again, I don't mind them stealing stuff. I'm totally cool with ripping off competitors, I just hate the way that they're clearly told "DO NOT MENTION THE OTHER COMPANY". Film studios don't do this nonsense, there's no problem with saying "I made Transformers, but with more explosions" or "It's like Titanic, but quieter and more personal". But games made by the big three are always "WE CREATED THIS IN A VACUUM WE ARE BEAUTIFUL FLOWERS OR CREATIVITY"

It's usually not specific games, but sometimes it is.

95% of the stuff we play today has been lifted from something else in some manner or another. When this genre becomes oversaturated with copycats, I'll complain. For now, Smash Bros. has needed a makeover for a long time.

Right. That's not what irritates me. Rip off whatever the hell you want, just give credit where credit is due. A simple "we thought 'what if Sony made Smash Bros?'" - which is a conversation that definitely happened, it wouldn't piss me off so much.

In a series with 3 games, and the first one was clearly just hammered together over the weekend? Smash Bros really hasn't gotten stale (though Brawl was not really an improvement over Melee)

Hell, you want a REALLY good game, let's have a 3-way collaborative project between Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft. I want to have Master Chief shoot Mario into Kratos.

There is no ethic in an industry that charges you $100 for a wifi dongle or $100 for 32GB memsticks. The issues that allowed this came and went yet nothing was done so, this kind of shit is par for the course.

Powerstone and the other really old one are the only ones I recall. I'm sure there are more but these odds already look better than most.

The base game requires nothing more than maybe some tweaking but the biggest addition was the inclusion on online multiplayer which was completely broken. The genre itself though, I think has room to grow a bit.

Yeah, whatever I'm thinking about must have been announced at least 18 months ago. I feel like the name "Namco All-Stars" or something was brought up? Apparently there's some 3DS project that might be collaborative between Namco/Sega/Capcom (heavy rumor territory) that might be called Pac-Man Smash or something.

Well, I would still love a version with working online. I'm still mad at getting destroyed in our on-site tournament because it was a laggy mess. I think Smash can stay at least as fresh as generic fighting games, genre-wise, if they make all the right decisions.

The one time I tried playing Brawl online it was against Food Nipple. Now I don't know if you've ever gamed with Food but he made sure I did not have fun and he did a hell of a job of it.

David Jaffe did say that he ripped off Devil May Cry for God of War. Sometimes it's good to give credit were credit is deserved.

Personally, I think it's ok to take a good idea and to improve on it but it is very tasteless to just straight copy and paste an exact game.

That at least had some of the same team behind SSB working on it. It was t bad, but some baffling decisions were made making that.

Thinking about it, there's been a few others like this, offhand I can recall a Shonen Jump-esque brawler for the DS, a Guilty Gear one, TMNT Smash up, and a Nicktoons title that was supposed to be out on the 3DS last year.
