I waited forever, but I'm finally watching Game of Thrones.

I was nervous because I love the books so much, but I find this adaptation more than satisfactory.

A week or so ago I asked for recommendations of thrillers and I'm slowly watching through the titles that were suggested here.

Last night I watched The Chaser, and I really can't say if I LIKED it or not, but it certainly held my attention tight for 2 hours. I don't know if it's just my unfamiliarity with Korean inflection or what but the comedic moments seemed really out of place with just how dark it was at other times. Muddi likened it to Fargo and I can see the similarities but Fargo is overall a much lighter movie, and I don't think The Chaser straddled the fence quite as successfully. Maybe the "jokes" actually come across far more dark if you know Korean, but by the end of the movie it almost felt like misery porn, particularly the way they
gave back hope that the lady was alive again halfway through the movie, only to incredibly brutally dash it at the end.

Maybe I just haven't watched enough Asian (non hollywood) endings recently, though.

I have another request!

I want movies with underwater exploration scenes. Stuff like Sphere, The Abyss, Below, or the opening scenes of Titanic. Any genre is ok, the setting seems to lend itself to horror but I would love to see something more adventurey or totally different if it's out there.

I'm not sure if it features the sort of scenes that you're looking for, but if you'd like a good Alien/The Thing knock-off, check out DeepStar Six.

I will give it a try.

That wiki also lists a bunch more (Leviathan, The Evil Below, Lords of the Deep, The Rift) so thanks for that. Anyone know if any of those are any good?

The wiki ALSO clear up some real cognitive dissonance for me and makes me feel stupid.

Jame's Cameron's "The Abyss" was a 1989 movie, he did NOT contribute to the recent one (which was appalling) like the damn XBMC scraper would have me believe! Stupid thing labelled my movies wrong. But now I have a new Jame's Cameron movie to watch which is exactly along the lines of the movies I'm looking for! I feel stupid.

Leviathan is great, cheesy 80's horror.

Sanctum is apparently quite good too.

The more successful Korean action/thrillers all suffer from this. It almost makes them formulaic. They are taut, gripping misery porn. I avoid them.

Watched The Adjustment Bureau over the weekend. I enjoyed it quite a bit. Matt Damon and Emily Blunt played well together, and the sci-fi parts of the story weren't too crazy. I don't know if I'd watch it again, but I'm glad I saw it.

The poor man's War of the Worlds with C. Thomas Howell in the lead. Definite B-movie but I have to say I was really impressed with Howell's part. He really nailed it.

Also, caught up on the current season of Ancient Aliens. It goes off the deep end sometimes but I do find the ideas fascinating.

I also watched this movie this last weekend. Thomas Howell actually did really fucking good. He looks like scarecrow and Ichabod Crane had a child but...whatever.

I am also rewatching Ancient Aliens. It is freaking amazing stuff. Even if 1 percent of that stuff was real wow.

Yeah, the guy had a ruptured appendix a few years back and he's looked like hell ever since.

There is a sequel, too. Watching that tonight.

No kidding on Aliens. It seems much more plausible than religion. Lol But it does bring to light some very curious stuff that mainstream science cannot explain.

It was a subversion on the regular catharsis that happens in mystery-thrillers. It is interesting to see that this little tweak is enough to label it misery porn.

Damn women, why would they fake being into other women for television!

Oh well, there's always Spartacus or Game of Thrones!
