World In Conflict
So recently I was listening the PC Gamer podcast and they were talking about how they recently saw Far Cry 3 and played its multiplayer. They mentioned that its being made by Ubisoft Massive, formerly known as Massive Entertainment. This brought up fond memories of Ground Control 2, so I did what anyone does when they are reminded of something, so a wikipedia entry later I was reading about World In Conflict and checked on steam seeing that it was 10 dollars.
So long story short, I really want to play this game but it seems that its largely based around its multiplayer. Would anyone from our wonderful community here be interested in playing this if I picked it up, and would this be a game you would recommend?

I recommend this game for it's SinglePlayer. It is by far, the best storyline in a RTT game I have ever played.

If you want a good multiplayer game in that style, the newly released Wargame: European Escalation beats the pants off it.

What's real time RTT? I thought it was a RTS game.

It's a lot more actiony than your tradition C&C style RTS and lacks a traditional resource system. So some people call it RTT (Real Time Tactical) instead.
It's a great game, looks amazing and the single player is quite good. The multiplayer was fun but very dependent on whom you're playing with. |

It's fucking gorgeous, it's fun as hell to play, and the multiplayer has some pretty challenging bots so I wouldn't worry about player counts.
I was in the beta, and bought the collectors edition the first chance I got. Quote:
![]() RTT = real time tactics. WiC plays out in tactical scale more than anything like strategy, in military terminology. In MP, each player only controls a single platoon or wing of guys, so it's more about working with your mates than building bases and such.

I loved the single player, but as I got near the end of it and the add-ons started releasing, I started having some problems getting it to run, and just stopped playing it.
I really should get the expansions and play it some again. As has been said already, it's absolutely gorgeous, and I love the RTT play style. It reminds me of... I think Ground Control.

It was made by the same people, so it makes sense that it reminds you of Ground Control.

Wow, i completely forgot about this game. Went and installed it again, it's still great.
It also reminded me of why I never finished the damn thing in the first place. Crashed at the end of the first mission. Yeah. Fuck that. Fully patched.

I need to go back and finish this one. I really enjoyed what I played of it. I'd certainly say it's worth a ten spot.

Actually, just about all of the abilities in the game look really good. Try a firebomb run on a forest and see for yourself.

I've owned this game for a loooooong time, but I've never really played it because it used to crash on my old machine due to what looked like a memory leak - by the end of the first mission the game would exit abruptly. While playing the display on my G15 keyboard would show memory use slowly climbing and as soon as it hit 100%, bam!
Neither of my laptops really liked running the game either, despite being much newer than the machine I was using when I bought WiC. I should dig it up and pop it in on my new machine, which is awesome, and finally give it a go. Whatever I could play was awesome. |

when i played this game the first time i never encountered the crashes, when i installed it the second time i ran into them. I remember there being 2 fixes for it, the first one is to fix the first mission crash, and that is to turn all graphics to low, and the second is that there was a hotfix for when the game ran in direct x 9
