Final Fantasy XIV

So.. I've been following FFXIV for awhile now. I saw the introduction of the classic FF XI jobs. I saw Dragoon and almost fainted. It's the one job I wanted to be so badly in FFXI but never got to the level requirement to try it.

This is most likely a long shot, Is anyone still even remotely playing this?

I've considered it, actually, now that the patches are out. But I haven't bit the bullet yet.

I really enjoyed the beta, it just needed a touch more content. I felt they'd really moved forward from FFXI, it just needed some more stuff to do, it was so incomplete at launch.

I just got an email this morning about the newest patch, and it gave me a brief touch of that old twinge again.

Yeah, that's exactly what happened to me. I got the patch email this morning and felt like trying it again.

I played it pretty consistently right up until they instated the monthly fees in December. When patch 1.19 (two patches ago) came out, I was no longer struggling to find things to do, and they've added a wealth of content since then.

I'm trying to decide if I want to go back or not. Part of me really wants to log on and unlock the new jobs and obtain the AF armor (I hear the job related quests are great). Part of me just wants to wait for v2.0 to hit with its new game client.

I have a friend who's still playing on and off, but I haven't touched it in over a year. I barely have time to game as it is, let alone play an MMO.

I'm sad that I didn't like this game. I lost interest after the open beta but eventually bought it, yet I only played a few days in my free month earlier this year. I look at that big collector's box behind me sometimes and think about giving it another shot but I just don't have the desire.

Honestly, it's still broken, and will be until 2.0 comes out later this year. The people who play it know this and have come to terms with it. Still, there is a certain charm to it and there is plenty of content to keep one busy. So far, I'm really impressed by the job system. Unlocking Paladin and going through the series of quests to earn my artifact armor was a treat. I'm leveling up pugilist right now so I can do the same with unlocking Monk.

For anyone interested, they have a free trial period coming up this month (May 9th - 20th) if you want to go through the trouble of reinstalling/updating it to give it another go.

The Welcome Back Campaign for FFXIV is underway right now. It runs through May 20th. The game is free to play if you purchased the box at any point.

Today, SE released several screenshots from the upcoming FFXIV 2.0. As promised, it looks like a completely new game.





























Yes, that is a picture of a character jumping in a FF online title. Wonders, apparently, will never cease.

A deluge of new information on the game has been promised at a separate event in August.

Here is some concept artwork from the game as well. Highlights include an apparent redesign of Gridania, classic FF summons and monsters, and what looks like full set armor for the game's crafting/gathering classes.

Once the twins start sleeping through the night, you should still look into it. With the way leves work now, it's really easy to play the game in small doses and still solo level at a good pace.

I just might do that, it would be nice. So maybe I'll jump in later this year. When is 2.0 supposed to be out?

With 2.0, are they potentially releasing it for PS3 or has that ship completely sailed and it's PC only? The revamp looks amazing and what little I played of the original I didn't find terrible so I'd love a proper crack at it given my love of XI but if no PS3, I think I'd hosed.

According the the current roadmap, mid-november. They are going to have a free trial period for people who purchased the PC version when 2.0 goes live. So you can give it a go then and see if you'll be able to squeeze it in.

One of the reasons that they completely re-worked the graphics engine was so that they could optimize it for the PS3. The PS3 version will ship hand in hand with the 2.0 launch.
