How Much Is Your Net Worth?
![]() This infograph got me thinking. Personally, I probably have more than half of 2009 65 and over at the moment, and that's not really enough but I'm a late bloomer. And hopefully in the coming years I can be more aggressive with my money and build up more net worth, baring unforeseeable disaster. But it's kind of shocking seeing the 35 and Younger demographic having so little. And even here, I know some of you have barely two nickles to rub together. |

I'm worth close to $10,000, all of it inheritance. Without it, I'd be worth about - $2,000. While this probably isn't a great average example, I'm in my late twenties and should be essentially broke. The future looks brighter, but not for at least a few years. It can be...depressing at times.

Hmm, I'm in the under 35 and under bracket but not too far off of the 65 and up. I've been very careful to avoid debt when I can, which is why I have a tiny car and am not a homeowner. Unfortunately that will change when I finally start to build, since the costs for that are astranomical here at the moment.

A million Indian rupees. At the current rate, it would be just shy of 11k.
But I was speaking in dollar value.

Right now I ain't worth the electricity it took to type out this post.
![]() I actually had this crazy idea before winter of posting a website and making it into a sort of profile of me. It could then have a spot where people could make a small donation if they wanted too. I admit I am a more then a little curious to find out what could come of it. Obviously everything in the profile would have to be 100% true or it would be game over from the very start.

With two sets of undergrad degree loans and the graduate degree loans I'm working on, I'll be worth negative for...ever... |

I wouldn't worry about net worth too much to be honest. I don't even know what mine is, but far too many people put stock in such things. For analytical purposes such data is useful, but individuals judging their 'worth' based on net worth has always seemed a mission in fruitility and depression for many I see.
Personally I would say those stats can be rather misleading too. Given that you accumulate the majority of your net worth over the decades, you will always end up with a larger amount towards the tail end of your life. With property price increases the older generate can see their net worth increase through no effort of their own. Meanwhile with lack of housing the younger generations aren't paying their incomes into owning homes and equity, or with unemployment aren't able too. It's a nice bit of social commentary, but really isn't a huge surprise.

I'm doing very well. My wife & I are both 36 and we beat the 65 numbers with 401K's alone. Half equity in my home and no debt other than house & truck payment which will be gone this summer.

![]() In seriousness: that 2009 number for "35 and under" is sad. I find it hard to believe. Surely - after all the hate against megacorporations and old rich people - there are still some go-getters in our generation. Surely. After all, three out of four young Americans didn't move back in with their parents, right...? Nice! We're on our way to being in a comparable situation - about three years or so behind you. Security is an indescribably good feeling, especially with two rugrats in the house.
