Oh, absolutely. I know it's not objectively offensive and offensive doesn't mean "bad." Just pointing out that some words get different reactions from different people. I can hardly take a high road and say "that's sexist" because I say "bitch" all the time. I was just conditioned to avoid that word, and so I mostly do. I'd not impede anybody's right to say it, but it still makes me cringe.

By your own definition this chick was racist because she combined her prejudice with her ability to inflict physical damage on her classmates.

I often hear similar reasoning from people who think only whites can be racist...I've never understood that perspective

That argument was bullshit when the dude on the Real World first made it and still is. Its a cop out that makes every non-white person immune to being "racist" and thats it. Only thing is it technically also exempts almost every white person, because 99% of the people in the world have no power over anyone else. I know plenty of racists. Them not being in positions of power doesn't mean they're not fucking racists.

Normally I'd ignore the statement, but it pissed me off back in... 94'? when I first heard it. Basically black dude is being blatantly racist, someone calls him on it and he spews out the above. When everyone points out they have no power over him, he comes back with something along the lines of "all white people have power" or some other stupid shit.

Redefining racism to not apply to 99% of the populace is stupid. Redefining it so that it can only apply to white people is also stupid (which is what this is, since all white people have "power" somehow by being white).
