Any weather experts here? What is this? [Pic inside]

What is it thats covering the shoreline of a large part of the eastern US around NY and NC? It looks like a cloud but its shape isn't right. I'm wondering if its very thick fog but its shape is still very odd.

BTW this image gets updated every hour so it may be gone after a couple hours of this post.
