I've seen the Atelier book, and a few other new Udon titles, listed on Amazon/Right Stuf, but haven't looked into it (haven't played any of the games).

BTW Wraith, have you seen the Atelier Series book that Udon published recently? It's fantastic. Gives me high hopes for the VC1 book.
I received that email too, and now I've gotten another one that says August. I think I've gotten about ten of those emails so far moving it from June to November and then back earlier and then later. We should start a betting pool on what month it actually comes out.

I decided to go to the book's page, and the top lists me as having ordered it. I'm locked in at $26 instead of the current $31, so that's nice.

Still, thanks for the warning, Wraith. I definitely don't want to miss getting this book.

Oh, and from the guy at Udon that I e-mailed, it sounds like they will probably do the VC2 book, once the first is out.

I have not read through this thread yet, but after this post, I will go back and start reading.
However, wanted to say I picked this up 3 days ago, and... holy crap how did I miss it?

First two biggest impressions to me?
Holy crap is this game "Japanese"
and second?
My god... it's like they took the original X-Com template and tweaked it.

The first statement, don't take it the wrong way. What I mean is, I just don't see this game, at least in this fashion, being made anywhere else. The way the characters act/react, the visual style, the odd "touches" such as the pig with wings going "Moink"? Just all strikes me as familiar to when I was heavier into the jRPG games.

The second one... and this may have been covered elsewhere, but SO MUCH reminds me of X-Com. Picking Squad members with different strengths/weaknesses. The turn based tactical decision making where to leave characters at ends of turns and such, plus crouching or otherwise hiding to try and avoid enemies getting back at you. The possibility of retaliation shots and suprise ambush shots even when it's not a unit's turn. The likely squad setup of ?# infantry and a tank. The upgrading of weapons and units between missions in a separate screen... If this were near future against sectoids instead of pseudo WWII, I'd think it'd easily feel like a sequel.

And I gotta say, only 3 days of owning it, and this game has quickly become high on my list of favorites. So awesome.

I don't remember why I stopped playing it. I think it was because some of the battles got too long or something. I'll have to go back to it someday. I loved that you levelled up classes and not characters. Probably the only strategy RPG that I like that wasn't Shining Force.

In-battle saves are your friend.

Better late than never. Welcome to the best SRPG on consoles this generation.

I think an angel gets wings every time someone realizes the majesty of VC.

EDIT: What's X-COM?

Both times I've played Valkyria Chronicles I've quit at Chapter 15. I think it's because they give you three side stories and they sort of kill the momentum of the game. Still a brilliant game, though I found the sequel too hideous to play.

I hope the momentum never quits. And the sequels being on PSP is enough to keep me from playing them. Not a fan of handheld games especially when they are more than casual.

For anyone interested, all the DLC just dropped in price a few weeks ago, so they're cheaper to get. I have all of them but the last Edy mission pack they put out, they're all more than worth checking out.
