Don't make the same game over and over. Before repeating a game's combo, have at least 3 different ones between it to clear the market's memory.

That is the exact ver I'm playing, PM me your SteamID, maybe we can team up.

This is a big tip. Especially in the last 5 years, if you're doing well you'll have cash to spare, and can drop money on ads and recruitment. Some of the people you can hire from the really expensive recruiting ventures (Hollywood) are ludicrously competent.

Does anyone know the rules/limits on training?

That's not an issue in my book (thought I will admit that a game that looked like that concept art would have rocked).
There are issues for sure. But I "think" you can overlook them. It also depends on how hard the game is for you. I didn't find it that difficult so the save points were a gripe for me but not a full fledged complaint.

I find that for me, FUN in a game is a balance between the following things-

How good am I at that game style
Does the game itself hinder or help that style and by how much

From then on its all about the world and such.

And don't get me wrong, I wasn't trying to be an ass about what the game was supposed to look like and what it did look like.
I was being an ass
I totally don't care about those things. Once the game is in front of me I play it. Otherwise it would be a stupid exercise in trying to compare a dream to reality. No one in this thread is doing that, this is more a general complaint to the people in the world who cried 'Woe is Me' and sobbed into their little wee milk cups and felt that raising their fists in the air would in some way enact change.
Screw that...just play what's in front of you and accurately rate that.

I actually get more upset when a game has glimmers of potential that go unrealized. That infuriates me more than a plain old bad game because I can see how good it could have been but also how far it falls short of the good stuff.

Yep. But it seems like you do that WHILE playing the game. Which is what rating, reviewing, gathering an opinion is about.
My hatred is for saying "9 months ago they said they were going to have you be able to hack norad in REAL LIFE"
Oh...they removed it. Then I am not playing the game because I know it sucks.

Blah.

And that's exactly why I don't follow gaming news as closely as I used to, at least not the Dev diary, production notes kind of detail. I have found myself getting mote perturbed about stuff getting added to games that ends up bringing the whole product down than I am about stuff getting trimmed. I am now content with hearing an 'elevator pitch' of a game, seeing a screenshot or two and maybe a little trailer and then going from there. Well, that and listening to people around these parts whose opinions I trust.

I try to find a delicate balance between knowing enough about a product to make an informed decision about whether or not it will be worth my cash and keeping enough of it's inner workings a mystery so I won't be disappointed by the game when it comes out and feature X doesn't work the way they said it would.

I'd rather read a good post-mortem on a game a few weeks/months after it is released than stoke the hype-furnace with pre-release production journals.

Agreed. I have done well still knowing a good deal but just letting it slip off my back once I play the game. But that's because for some reason I do like to know the little tidbits of data so I sort of have to prepare myself for the 'real deal' once its released

I think I am going back to Eve...fuck. Thanks alot Mags.

Heh. Enjoy EVE. I'm tempted to try it again but I have WoW to obsess over again. One MMO at a time around these parts.

Well I know have.
5 45+ level WoW characters and non of them could be called Alt's But I barely sleep. Last night I played from 5pm until 3am this morning. But I am already getting a bit of burn out.
I agree 1 MMO is best for sure. They are nothing but grinds but they can indeed be fun.
If they make a true Torchlight MMO...which I know 1 game is coming out soon that looks just like that, then I am screwed.

So I've been playing a lot of Dwarf Fortress.

I use my roommate's iPad as a Netflix viewer and set it right next to the monitor, so I can catch up on my stories. As I build my first fort I've been watching the entirety of Samurai 7, the anime version of The Seven Samurai. It is fantastic, in my opinion, and catches the feel and characters of the film (aside from adding a female lead, which everyone seems to have to do these days for some reason) and is making me more and more excited to re-watch the original and show it to my roommate for the first time.

Also, I had a CoG dream last night. Karak was a main character, as usual, except very little like the Karak in real life. A few other CoGgers and I were stuck in a Battle Royale Ender's Game style situation, except they make unarmed people fight people in robots. Samurai 7! Woo!

And it turns out that I'm a badass at fighting robots. Chokeslamming an asshole in a robotic wolf is maybe one of the coolest things I've done in a dream. So I lead an escape and we make it out into the wilderness...where Karak owns a trailer park and is something of a paramilitary! Now the trailers were very nice, and there was nothing hick or redneck about it. But I'm pretty sure he had enough guns or something for an armed revolt. He seemed like a nice guy, though.

Supes - I'm pretty sure that wasn't a dream.

I'm right there with you. I barely follow game development these days, whereas I used to devour every tidbit I could get my hands on. Then came the triple-disappointments - Dungeon Keeper 2, Black & White, and Project Ego. Those three games one by one eroded my desire to follow games to such an extent before release, and these days I'll watch a trailer or two, browse some screen shots, and that's about it.

Hmmm....maybe I should just ignore Peter Molyneux instead. That man has broken my heart more times than any other.

Muhaha! That's great! I'm hoping we can get enough people back into it to get the COG corp up and running again.

This is real.
The trailers are transforming robots, the guns don't have bullets because I hate people enough to just personally push bullets through them, and it was all a training exercise and you passed.

You are ready.
