PS3 3D Blu-ray playback loses lossless audio
Did they phone all the three people that own these to inform them?!?!?

I think 3D is fucking stupid. I had to say it, I'm tired of hearing about it and I'm bored.

Pffft,
I thought it was a typo at first. I have no idea what those terms mean. To be brutually honest though, I doubt they make a ton of difference in the audio.

It is quite simple, lossless compression retains all of the original audio information after decompression, lossy looses some of the information after decompression. The difference is quite noticeable unless you have poor audio equipment or some form of hearing damage.

According arstechnica, the other thing that changed with this firmware release is not just some not-detectable-by-normal-people audio issues with the lame 3d, but some third-party USB adaptors also got the boot. It remains to be seen how large a problem it really is. But it does seem Sony is becoming more like Microsoft.

I don't think breaking the older officially licensed controller functionality was on purpose. I am sure they will patch them back in on the next update but with this being Sony and some people being themselves I am sure this is going to be a big deal. Even for the people that this does not affect in any way.

Looks like MS isn't the only company cracking down on unofficial peripherals through firmware updates. Who's next? Nintendo? Next gen, I bet it's the total death of unlicensed peripherals.
Nope. I get a new music CD, put it in my computer and import, then listen. Last edited by OldJadedGamer; 09-26-2010 at 05:19 PM. |
