Have we really hit the wall with both processor power AND graphics now to the extent that we have to move sideways and only enhance graphics via 3D and only enhance processor performance via parallelism? That does not bode well for the human race.
2009 was a great year to buy a high end TV. It is nice to walk into Best Buy or browse the internet shops all this year and see that eveyrthing new is 3D capable, but has much lower specs than what I have.

PS3 3D Blu-ray playback loses lossless audio

All 3 are owned by James Cameron and he said there was no way he was gonna listen to lossy audio in his guest bathroom at his winter cabin where all 3 sets reside.

Every other room in his 6 houses has an IMAX3D projector.

I don't even know what the difference between "lossless" and "lossy" is anyway. Are either of those even real words?

I think 3D is fucking stupid. I had to say it, I'm tired of hearing about it and I'm bored.

I've actually never seen the terms used outside of PR bullet points promoting Blu-ray.

Pffft,

I thought it was a typo at first. I have no idea what those terms mean. To be brutually honest though, I doubt they make a ton of difference in the audio.

It is quite simple, lossless compression retains all of the original audio information after decompression, lossy looses some of the information after decompression. The difference is quite noticeable unless you have poor audio equipment or some form of hearing damage.

According arstechnica, the other thing that changed with this firmware release is not just some not-detectable-by-normal-people audio issues with the lame 3d, but some third-party USB adaptors also got the boot. It remains to be seen how large a problem it really is. But it does seem Sony is becoming more like Microsoft.

A number of older "officially licensed" controllers no longer work. This firmware update effectively made them useless.

I don't think breaking the older officially licensed controller functionality was on purpose. I am sure they will patch them back in on the next update but with this being Sony and some people being themselves I am sure this is going to be a big deal. Even for the people that this does not affect in any way.

Looks like MS isn't the only company cracking down on unofficial peripherals through firmware updates. Who's next? Nintendo? Next gen, I bet it's the total death of unlicensed peripherals.

Nope. I get a new music CD, put it in my computer and import, then listen.
