Dated: Kane & Lynch 2

Is it just me, or do the release date announcements seem to come in bunches? The latest title to join the party is Square Enix and IO Interactive's Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days. The co-op action title will hit PS3s, 360s and PCs in North America on August 24, with Europe getting it on August 27.

Hmm. The first game was interesting enough that I'll pick it up to find out what happened next in Kane's horrible life, but probably not at full price.

The sequel nobody asked for! Kind of like the videogame version of The Boondock Saints.

But Boondock Saints was good, and I hear the sequel wasn't all that bad. Where is this game got all sorts of grief last time.

Rightfully so. It's rare for a game to be as average as K&L was. The levels were cluttered with bad design choices, the characters moved like they had the runs and it's still the only shooting game I've seen where aiming down the sights is actually less accurate than hip-fire.

About the only good thing it had going for it was auto-recognition of a 360 gamepad when you plugged it into the PC, a rarity for the time.

The first K&L was pretty mediocre, but I liked it. I especially liked the Fragile Alliance multiplayer mode. That was some good stuff.

I just played the demo, and it took me by surprise. The whole thing looks like it's been shot through a handycam and put on on youtube afterwards. Which is a good thing for this game believe me. The effect is awesome and makes the atmosphere different from other shooters. It looks pretty danm good in the sceney dep. as well.

The effect they use reminds me of the Blacklight game on Live but here it's done well instead of uselss in that game. Scratches, censor mosaic, static, internet sounds, screen distortions. It could have turned out crap but looks marvelous once you get past the is my PS3 broken phase.

Gameplay is solid, although the controls can feel a bit sluggish when running and looking for cover, but the setpieces and the way it communicates make we wanna forgive that.

I didn't expect it at all but I'm keeping an eye on this. If they can add enough variety and Ucharted 2 moments like the demo did I'm in.

You know, I was marginally interested in this game a while ago when it was first announced, etc. However, it seems to me like it's been "pending" so long that I've lost all interest in it.

I was about to come in here and say I'd prefer another Hitman to K&L2, but your comment has intrigued me. I'll have to try the demo before dismissing this out of hand.

I'd still really like another Hitman.
