Bad Company 2 Getting Two Free Maps March 30
I love a good rivalry. Ever since EA and DICE began promoting Battlefield: Bad Company 2 last year they had their sights set firmly on the big dog in the modern shooter yard: Activision's Modern Warfare 2. DICE took every PR stumble made by Activision, and framed them as wins for Bad Company. That rivalry continues, as EA announces a March 30 release date for the first Bad Company 2 map pack. The same day as the first MW2 map pack. EA even takes a shot at faux self help "mapathy" website Activision set up to promote the Modern Warfare 2 map pack.
The "VIP map pack 2" will be free to anyone who entered the VIP code contained in copies of the game. However the map pack doesn't actually add new maps to the mix, it just unlocks a pair of maps - Conquest mode for Arica Harbor and Rush mode for Laguna Presa - previously unavailable in those game modes. Unless I am missing something, Bad Company 2 is light on maps for each game type. This is good news, but the game needs much much more for free to not split the community.
