Lego Star Wars Spreads to the Clone Wars

If you know a gamer under the age of 10, then you probably realize how popular the Lego Star Wars (and Lego Batman, and Lego Harry Potter, and Lego Indy) games are. They're a sensation. They're not the most difficult or deepest games on the market, but they're the rare animal which can truly appeal to gamers of all ages. So it's not really a surprise that Lucasarts and Travelers Tales are going back to the well with Lego Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

Based on the animated series airing in the US on Cartoon Network, Lego Star Wars: The Clone Wars tells stories set between Episodes II & III of the theatrical features. Travelers' Tales promises new moves and abilities, as well as an expanded Level Builder. Expect the game this Fall on all major platforms.

Me too. I'm needing a new co-op game to play with my daughter. If only there was a site dedicated to co-operative gaming...

Oh, Lucas, you may have found the only way Clone Wars would ever enter my home. Like I-III, I never really got into it, but LEGO Star Wars is LEGO Star Wars!

Wait, so this is the crappy new Clone Wars and not the kickass mini-series that so outclassed the prequels it's not even funny?

Pass.

The Clone Wars series is surprisingly good, although not as awesome as the one made by the Samurai Jack people.

I don't get the under 10 crowd stuff. I really enjoy the lego games. They are a nice distraction from the all too serious games that are the current market.

I think it's supposed to be both. I think all of the characters from the Genndy Tartakovski version are also in the CG one.

They're much, much bigger with the under 10 crowd, but as I said, they're some of the few games which are truly all ages now.

If that's the case then I could possibly be persuaded. Especially if it recreates that scene where Mace Windu was ripping mechs apart with his bare hands.

Pardon the descent into geekery...but the Clone Wars shorts were the only time I ever really bought Anakin being incredibly powerful. The movies made him out to be gifted - at best - but not really a rival to the strongest of the council. Tartakovsky, on the other hand, really made him out to be a force to be reckoned with...

I have this problem where I only read half of something and then jump to conclusions.

I saw parts of one years ago (I think it was on Cartoon Network), but, as I said, it didn't really take.

Let's see. Genosian zombie worms, Ahsoka being a bad-@$$, A CG Anakin showing real emotion and occasional glimpses of evil, Obi-Wan's obscure past, the reveal of the Mandalorians, an ancient light saber, depth to quite a few clone troopers (I fear for the future of Rex and Cody), and Cad Bane.

Also...

I think it's comparing apples to oranges. They are such different styles. There was not a lot of narrative in the first mini-episodes but there was some great action.

I like them both. The Blu-Ray release of Season 1 blows the prequels out of the water.

Hopefully by the time I have children who are old enough, this LEGO games fad will be long gone, because I can't stand playing or seeing another one of these lame games.

My son's playing Lego Batman right now and we bought him the Clone Wars Lightsaber duels game for the Wii, he also enjoys watching the animated series on Cartoon Network, so he'll probably enjoy this.
