Uh, you aren't supposed to, but as the Assassin's Creed Says: Nothing Is True, Everything Is Permitted.
Including stilettoing the eyes of Ren Faire Minstrels. All three of these things happened. I stabbed the guys guarding the codex in a pair of sweet dual kills, grab the page, then I leave, to be accosted by a PAIR of these lute carrying bastards. Dual killed them. It said 'Warning Ezio didn't kill innocents', but I hardly care. So I run away as another group of five guards is raging after me, only to be tripped up by Claudio, the slow-witted Fruit Salesman who AIMS TOWARDS ME as I run from the law. So, he met his ultimate fate for being a numbnuts. The game warned me a second time that I would be de-synched if I did it again. By that time I was running across the rooftops to have Leonardo translate the page.
