Media Create Sales for 11/09 to 11/15 - King for a Week

Here are the software and hardware numbers from Japan, straight from Media Create, for the week 11/09 to 11/15.

In a rare turn around, Sony managed to claim the top two spots in the hardware chart last week, with the PSP-3000 beating out the DSi, and the PS3 beating out the Wii. In fact, the PSP-3000 was the only hardware to experience an increase in sales over the previous week. PSP Go sales continued to collapse, with a mere 6,427 units sold.

It was a quiet week for software with J-League Pro Soccer Club o Tsukurou! 6: Pride of J (Let's Create a Pro Soccer Club) on PSP from Sega capturing the top spot. The new Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles for Wii opened weakly by Final Fantasy standards, at number 8, only managing 35,412 copies sold. Square Enix might need to reconsider their pricing strategy on Wii, with the retail price of the game, 7,340 yen (~$83), being significantly higher than many other Wii titles. Pokemon Star on the DS was at the number 2 position, now just ~19k shy of 3 million lifetime sales.

During a financial presentation this week, Marvelous Entertainment stated that, while 3 of its 4 Wii titles lost money, 4 of its 5 PSP titles managed to make a profit (if barely). From Edge-Online:
Quote:
In Japan, Muramasa: The Demon Blade sold 47,000 units, Arc Rise Fantasia 45,000 and Little King’s Story just 26,000, reports Siliconera. In the US and Europe, Little King’s Story moved 37,000 and 67,000 copies respectively. September release Valhalla Knights: Eldar Saga has sold 16,000 units in North America.

The company’s top performing title was Half-Minute Hero for PSP with 70,000 sales. Fellow PSP releases Hitman Reborn! Battle Arena 2 and Valhalla Knights 2: Battle Stance sold 41,000 and 35,000 units.

Marvelous suggested that, as new IPs, a number of its games suffered from a lack of brand awareness. Its PSP titles performed better because they were based on established franchises and were cheaper to produce, the company said.
MegaTen fans may like to check out Jeremy Parish's preview of Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey on the DS, based on the Japanese release, over at 1UP.

Proof the world is full of god damn idiots.

Little Kings Story, though utterly frustrating at times was one of the best gaming experiences in recent memory. I just wish they'd remembered they were using a Wii, would of benefited greatly from using the pointer to divide up troops and so on.

Just look at it.

Exactly. I adored Muramasa and while I haven't put nearly enough time into LKS, it is a fantastic game with just a few tweaks needed to push it over the top into pure awesome territory.

Sigh.

Murasama still isn't out here, it is coming this year though, which is a real nice change of never seeing these games.
