[Rumor] Epic Games Working on Unreal Engine for Consumers?
A source for Joystiq is reporting that Epic Games is currently building a toolset based on the Unreal 3 engine that members of the general populace can purchase and use to create their own FPS fan-fiction. Could the next great evolution in gaming be more than just mods and maps, but actually full games being created by nobodies out on the internet with a near-infinite supply of time and hope? Certainly, that's the only thing that has ever fueled the evolutions we've experienced to date.

If they can actually develop and release a consumer program that lets you create a game that is not only visually on par with today's games, but technically, then we could very well see this bearing fruit.
Or, we could just have another FPS Creator.

I predict dozens of Dom/Marcus slash fanfiction in its future.

I picture people making sequels to their favorite games. Searches will include roughly 5,000 variations of "Halo 4". "Hey guys! Play my Haylow 4 game! It's the BEST!"

I'd be fine with a proper sequel to Deus Ex.

I raise you motherfuckers with Blood 3. Too bad I don't see how in hell this stuff would differ from modding in general. After all, it's not like projects fall apart because of limited access to the core engine.

Um, full games already get released by independent people and groups all the time. These "nobodies" have been making games for years.
