New Xbox Live Features Age Restricted, Microsoft Working on Patch

The impending rollout of Twitter, Facebook and Last.fm integration on Xbox Live has turned into a bit of an age war.

Young people - and by 'young' I mean under 18 years of age - who have gained early acess to the update via the preview program have noticed that they can't access those social networking applications. This is not a glitch, but an intentional lock-out by Microsoft, because at the moment, you cannot choose to lock minors out of those features using the Parental Controls.

But Microsoft is working on a patch which would allow 13-17 year olds to access the social features with their parents' permission. However that patch won't be available until at least several weeks after the update goes live for all users later this month. So kids, you'll just have to bear up under the burden of only being able to update your Status from your computer, media center, cell phone, media player or any of the dozens of other devices close at hand. Know that we adults all fell your pain.

The internet =/= Social networking sites.

Also, have you ever been to myspace? I'm pretty sure that that's where the demise of civilization starts and that's full of 13-17 year olds.

yeah, with the upcoming patch i can have my live name posted on some 13 yr old kid who MW2-perked me while calling me a douche-noob. awesome. when i was 13 we played outside, threw rocks, rode bikes. kids today are weak, feeble, and fat. no wonder there they make products that are peanut-free - i blame the internet for making Late Gen-Y and Gen-Zers into pussies.

what were we talking about again?

Personally, keep the restriction. You mean they won't be able to use the 360 for posting general garbage? Awww. Too bad.

I guess I should of put what I typed in pink Just my commentary really on the "old folks" who get up in arms over anything that involves 13-17 yr olds, social networking and anything new or what they don't want to understand

The demise of civilization started with the gutting of the education system, Myspace is just living proof of how fucked we are.
