New Overclocked Remix Album: "Castlevania: Sonata of the Damned"

Just in time for Halloween (almost too late, honestly) comes a fresh new album from the masters at Overclocked Remix. Well, just the singular "master" in this case. A rarity for OCRemix albums, this particular release was crafted by just one mixer. And what a mixer he is. Joshua Morse was the man responsible for assembling a previous (non-OCRemix) album based on Castlevania: Symphony of the Night that still ranks as one of my favorite game remix albums of all time. And now he's created an album that spans multiple Castlevania entries. I haven't yet given it a listen, but I have no doubt at all that this creation will be another masterpiece for Morse.

Ugh. This album is awful.

It's basically Castlevania as done by 80s Muzak.

I think he was referring to it in terms of his musical tastes. Whether something is awful or awesome is all opinion, isn't it? I say Call of Duty 4 is awful and Root Beer Tapper is awesome, and I'm not wrong.

Uh, yea? Music is for the listener. If it's not up to their tastes, it's of course going to be horrible to the him or her. Opinions...they're like that.

And it's an opinion I concur with. But I must admit, I'm biased. I hate 90% of remixes so yea. Even so, it's just not my thing. *shrugs*

I love a good VG remix, I've got a hard drive full of OCRemix stuff, it's just that this isn't a good one. It sounds like they were done on an old Casio from the 80s, the style is just all wrong.

Maybe that's the intent, but I didn't get the impression from the artist's site that "ironic humor" was the intent here.

See, way I see it, SotN has one of the best videogame soundtracks ever. Ain't broke, don't fix it. But again, that's my remix bias getting to me. I used to have the same bias with covers, but I got over that with time. Maybe I can do the same with remixes, cause I know I'm kinda cheating myself with my bias.

Well see, a GOOD VG remix/re-arrangement should elevate the song to something even better. I've heard some seriously incredible stuff. The Dark Side of Phobos album for instance, was incredibly well done. Tyler Heath's stuff blows me away, real cinematic quality shit spun from simple vidgame soundtracks.

I was really looking forward to listening to this. Not very impressed with Sonata of the Damned. It's actually a mix of Castlevanias (only 1 SotN song).

That said, the link they provided for the Symphony of the Night remix was ok. Some songs better than others, but it sounds like they were trying to remix every song to some new age jive beat. Not feeling it....

*EDIT* Nevermind, I listened to the SotN remix in full and it basically sucks....
