Namco's "Inversion", A New Zero-G 3rd Person Shooter

Publishers and developers are forever struggling to find the next great "alt." What I mean by "alt" is that one interesting factor or gimmick which can alter an otherwise standard title into something more interesting. That appears to be the goal of Namco and developer Saber Interactive (Timeshift) with their just announced title Inversion.

The "alt" in the case of Inversion is gravity, or more precisely the lack of it. While chunks of the game will play out as a normal third person shooter, in other spots there is no gravity, so you have to move, fight and take cover in new and different ways. And that's not even the oddest part of the game.

there are also "Vector Charges" that sometimes occur (it's unclear exactly how) that rotate the entire environment as you play. This causes the world to "flip" (PlayStation: TOM's quote) -- sometimes 90 or 180 degrees -- causing you, enemies, grenades floating in midair, etc. to fall to what's now the new ground. Trippy.
More on the game as it's made available.

Every step closer we get to a legit Battle School game is a step towards world peace.

Good to see that Saber is still around. After Timeshift I wasn't sure if they were going to do anymore titles.

I loved Timeshift. Yup, it's part of my personal collection. Loved the shotgun combat in the levels with tighter corridors. Like the first few.

I never got too far in the game. I think I had just gotten my indian powers before being pulled into other games. I do recall going into a portal and coming out on to this mario galaxy like orb where you where shooting alien all weird like. But it was a tiny orb also and the alien was still normal sized from on the other side of the portal.
