New Brink Screens

Click to see the rest of the images

Bethesda and Splash Damage have provided us with new images from Brink. Announced at this past E3, Brink is a shooter boasting an impressive 8-person co-op mode. The game will also feature RPG-like skill advancement, a dynamic quest system and a persistent online world, where your actions on one mission can affect the experience of other gamers down the road.

Brink is scheduled for a spring 2010 release on the 360, PS3 and PC.

From what I've heard about it, Brink will probably the big 'buzz' game for the spring, much like Borderlands has been for this fall.

Errrr.... Considering that Brink isn't set in the present day and has remarkably little in common with Fallout 3, I'm tempted to say, "Yes."

So this is an MMO or what? I'm tired of this beating around the bush bullshit that devs pull; tell me what it is so I know whether to interested in it or not. I can't be the only one who immediately gets turned off to a game when it turns out the only thing that makes it worth playing are online features.

Edit: I know it's not an MMO pre se, but if it's only meant to be played online and in coop, it's an online only game which is much the same in my eyes. I lose more interest every time I hear more about the title, though I know it's an inverse situation for other people.

No per se about it. It's not online only. One of their primary stated goals is to blur the line between solo and online play, so that playing alone is essentially the same experience as playing with friends.

Did you play Chromehounds? It sounds like the persistent world in Brink will be similar. And there is an offline, SP component but the game will nudge you to play online if you can.

"Blurring the lines" means you still need access to online components, so it still counts as an online game. Single-player means offline without any input from other outside sources. That's like saying WoW isn't an MMO because you just play by yourself all the time.

See, I just hope that's not the case, because I don't recall Chromehounds having a particularly good single-player. It was one of those games where you "needed to play with friends to truly appreciate it," as the review line usually goes.

This is pretty much just like Call of Duty except more agility (depending on class, climbing, sliding), and more options in terms of earning XP (class specific, change class/objectives mid mission, but not load-outs).

Also the game allows for a lot of character customization, which you can see in my videos I recorded.

If you play by yourself, you just have more classes and objectives to choose from. Not any better or worse, just a different experience. Kind of like Brute Force or Conflict: Denied Ops.

But didn't you see the sheet metal shanty shacks? If that's not Fallout 3 then I don't know what you want.

I don't know about this, part of me feels like the marketing department found a really nice sounding way to spin bot matches.

By the same logic Shadowrun had 8 player co-op, and Perfect Dark Zero had 16 player co-op.

Totally agree with you, the main thrust of the game is for multiplayer. I doubt they'd spent much dev time to make 8 player co-op actually much fun. I'd love to be proven wrong and they give us a robust SP campaign.

Otherwise I'm greatly looking forward to this.
