Brink Interview: Richard Ham Says Touch Wood, Downloadable Women Possible

While admiring the incredibly shiny LED video walls of the Brink demo area at last weekend's PAX, Paul Wedgwood (CEO of Splash Damage) invited CoGers mightbe and Ghostbear to interview the game's Creative Director Richard Ham. Ham's previous titles include Syphon Filter and Fable 2.

Topics of discussion include the game's lack of female characters, the change in working for a smaller studio, and what type of game play experience we can expect from Brink.

I'll have to admit that after seeing the guided demo at PAX, I was quite ready to get my hands on it to check out the fluid way that the characters were interacting with their environments.

Also of interest was the game's dynamic quest system that offers greater rewards to characters for switching to vital classes and taking on objectives that were critical to mission success.

Head on over to the Colony of Gamers Flickr slideshow for some of the latest screen shots.

Between this and Borderlands, are we seeing the advent of a new age of Role Playing Shooter games or is it just a coincidence that two great looking games in the genera are popping up around the same time?

I find the lack of powerful women in games severely lacking, Games like ME or Fable 2 at least got that part right. I usually prefer them as an avatar as well.

I was interested in a bunch of the games at PAX, until I heard the word MMO, and walked away. Pretty sure this one was also described as an MMO by the dev.

Ummm, no. They said it would be 8 player drop-in, drop-out co-op.

I watched this at QuakeCon and found it to be fucking incredible. I think it will be the next big multiplayer FPS. Halo, Call of Duty, Brink.
