There are different levels of a minimalist art style. Anyway it's a matter of opinion (although I did find some Wipeout HD reviews which specifically talk about the slick, clean minimalist look of the game so I know I'm not completely crazy).

Anyway this whole discussion started on whether the next gen will have 1080p games with all the whiz bang features which only sort of relates to the topic at hand.

In the end, I guess I really don't care what the resolution is as long as it looks good. People got their panties in a bunch when they found out Halo and COD weren't really running at full 720p but I didn't give a crap because the games still look good. Some games look amazing even at 480p (ex. Muramasa).

Agreed.

Resolution isn't really what matters, though it does help, it's art style that really makes a game look good. Next gen, though, I think 1080p will be the standard, but I don't see that next gen happening until at least 2012.

It seems to me he's equating "not overly complex" with minimalistic. Minimalism means that the art style attempted to do very much with very little, not that that didn't go balls-to-the-wall crazy pushing the limits of what's happening on screen. A "minimalistic" game has developers constantly saying "simplify, simplify, simplify!", whereas, from the screenshots, it seems WipeoutHD mostly said "Whoa, not too much. We don't wanna go crazy." Those aren't the same thing.

Not overly complex and minimalistic are not so easily defined, but it seems you would like them to be. Sorry, that sounds way more ass like than I wanted it to. I just mean taking those three pictures into account its easy to see how opinions vary.
For me. I just agree with the developers. And they did wonderful, as they wanted to.

You probably didn't read close enough originally. I was simply agreeing with someone else and adding that I liked the design then agreeing with another person in fact I don't think there was much of a disagreement that I was involved in, just a matter of what someone else meant when they said minimalist. Then I said it looked good and it was a boon to developers then boom...I am not sure what happened after that.
