An improvement of GHTunes? I suppose so, but it's a huge improvement, and I think a significant amount of innovation was required to make that leap. I don't think its iterative when it works in a fundamentally different manner than GHTunes - authoring with the actual masters on a PC using the same tools as Harmonix is not just an iteration over an in-game MIDI studio. (Also, Harmonix started work on it before GHTunes was released, so there's that.)

Additionally, a system for selling user-generated content is something I haven't seen in any other game - I wouldn't be too surprised if some PC game has done it, but it's unique on consoles. I'm hoping the idea spreads.

There's a Rock Band 2.2 patch coming this month to add support for the Rock Band Network beta. It'll be interesting to see the extent of feature additions in it - while I don't expect those ones, it could give some indication as to whether we might see them in a later patch.
