Kalypso Media Acqires "Majority" of Ascaron's Assets
Kalypso Media, a German publisher, has acquired a "majority of licenses and assets" from bankrupt developer Ascaron. The publisher has also opened a new studio - Gaming Minds - with 15 veterans of the Sacred series signed on for the ride.
It appears that Ascaron's most well know property - Sacred 2 - is not a part of the deal. Those rights are apparently still tied with Ascaron UK, a separate entity which published some smaller studio and indie titles in the UK. Their IP catalog after that is pretty slim, with most of their titles getting no mainstream exposure. It is also unknown what this means for the team already announced as working on expansions for Sacred 2 as well as Sacred 3. Source - Shacknews |

They went under before it even came out. And it was supposed to be out for the PS3/360 last year. I think last summer/early fall in fact. I know it was supposed to ship in March of this year before being bumped at the last minute back to May.

The game was obviously rushed out for the PC and poorly bug tested, so I'm guessing that they were in at least some trouble even before the title shipped.
