Friday Night Blog Burst - Philo Farnsworth Edition

As you can tell Colony of Gamers tends to focus on video games and related fields. But most of us here are well rounded nerds people, and therefore a wide range of interests and hobbies. For example our own Rein is using his blog to document his TV habits. He - like me - has noticed just how jam packed Tuesday nights are.

Mike Rowe is back to narrate a 5th season of Deadliest Catch on the Discovery Channel. It is followed by the 2nd season premier of Out of the Wild: The Alaska Experiment.

I will start off watching American Idol at 8/7c before flipping over to the Discovery Channel. Tonight is Cinema Song Night on AI with Quentin Tarantino guiding the contestants through their songs. Quentin Tarantino?

It looks like I will need to DVR Fringe since tonight is turning into reality tv Tuesday.

Rescue Me also premiers tonight on FX at 10/9c. Too bad I no longer have FX. I will probably have to Hulu it later this week.
Watching American Idol is bad, but Fringe, Rescue Me and Deadliest Catch almost make up for it. ALmost.

I'd say 80% of all Deadliest Catch episodes are the exact same thing, over and over, but it NEVER gets old. I love that the show has been so successful and that others like it as much as I do.

American Idol but no love for The Biggest Loser? I really like that show. It's probably the best reality show on tv...in terms of substance (no skank sexuality like most reality shows) and ultimate outcome. I like reality shows that have a purpose, like the weight loss ones.

And yeah, Deadliest Catch...when I watch a show I can't tell if it's a rerun or not.

According to the Wikipedia (re: Rescue Me)...
Controversy surrounded Rescue Me after an episode in season 3 ("Sparks") showed Tommy raping his ex-wife, Janet. A few minutes later, Tommy leaves the home and Janet is on the couch reading a magazine. Two episodes later ("Zombies"), Janet forces herself on Tommy to make them "even". A later episode dealt with Sheila, the wife of Tommy's deceased cousin, drugging him with rohypnol and Viagra and then proceeding to rape him.
Kind of a dealbreaker for me.

AI isn't that bad when they get to the final 10. I have never been able to sit through the first few episodes each season though.

They ruined it last week. The Judges now have the option to keep one and only one singer who is eliminated by votes. They used it last week just for the sake of using it. Dumb!

Did anyone else watch Deadliest Catch? Wizard Captain Keith Colburn got one hell of a knock on his head when he went diving to repair a zinc plate that came loose. According to the previews for next week a distress call goes out. It looks like it is a call from one of the unknown boats. Those are still tense moments on the show.
