PSA: Borderlands Not Dead

Publisher 2K Games and developer Gearbox (Brothers in Arms) have a message for the public. Despite a severe lack of info in recent months, they assure us that Borderlands is still on track for a release "later this year."

Borderlands first popped up in a Game Informer cover article back in 2007. The game is probably best summed up as "The Road Warrior meets Diablo." You hunt for treasure on a dusty alien world while collecting a ton of random, procedurally generated loot. The devs promise upwards of 500,000 different guns, and an equal number of accessories and armors. Much of the game's terrain and 'dungeons' will also be procedurally generated. All of this wrapped around 4 player co-op and vehicular combat. Now if they only include razor boomerangs and Master Blaster...

This is easily one of my most anticipated games, so it better not be dead 8-P.

Seriously, in the video I watched, the demo guy was playing through and discovering guns that the developer didn't even know could be generated. I think it was a shotgun, that worked like a revolver, and shot lightning bolts.

It's a machine for mining/excavation. Believe it or not, it's based on real-life vehicles!

I mean, if it's supposed to come out later this year, there's really no need to talk about it before this year's E3, right?

One of my most anticipated games, for sure. This is the kind of FPS that gives me a rock-hard boner.

Completely forgot about this.

If this really has an open world and plays at least a bit decent I'll love it.

On paper it got everything I could wish for, and all of that in a wild west / post apoc / sci fi setting, BUT I played Brothers in Arms, AND I WAS NOT PLEASED!!

Please be good Borderlands!

The one that stood out for me was the revolver with a sniper scope that had exploding rocket bullets.

But yes, I am very eager to check out this title. I hope it is good.

Echoing the sentiment in this thread, very much looking forward to this game and it does look badass, specially with some online co-op mayhem.

I've seen some pretty big machines, but that is just crazy. I didn't realise just how big it was till I saw the bulldozer. Good god.

Why do I suspect that I will end up getting generated guns that are bright pink with rainbow rose tinted sniper scope lenses that fire prawns?

i think they had to move it from one mine to another at some point... that would be fun to watch heh

but ya back on topic i didn't really know much about this game before now and now i'm very very glad it's not dead since it seems like it could be a hell of a lot of fun
