Comic Day Week 1 - January 2, 2009
No, that's not a misprint. Because of the holidays we won't be getting our comics until Friday. Not exactly an auspicious way to begin a year, but what are you going to do? It's still the first Comic Day of the new year, and that enough it reason to celebrate. But, that's not the only reason to celebrate. The Tiger Men bring the heat and give you a rundown of the best 2008 had to offer in comics. After a few small to middling weeks, we get a real doozy. Quantity, quality and diversity. DC Batman #684 Blue Beetle #34 Green Lantern #36 Justice League Of America #28 Justice Society Of America #22 Superman #683 Trinity #31 Marvel Avengers Invaders #7 Avengers The Initiative #20 Captain America #45 Fantastic Four #562 Guardians Of The Galaxy #8 Incredible Hercules #124 Wolverine Manifest Destiny #3 Wolverine #70 X-Force #10 Indie Farscape #1 Star Wars Legacy #31 Transformers All Hail Megatron #6 Picks of the Week Justice Society Of America #22 - The finale of the Thy Kingdom Come mega story arc, which feels like it began a decade ago. Delays have stretched the story out, but it really has been a worthy successor to the classic Kingdom Come story without invalidating that tale. Wolverine #70 - Did anyone really thing Millar & McNiven would get this book out on time? Frankly the five issues we've received in seven months isn't too bad considering. And the story itself is pretty damn good, too. Millar calls it the "Dark Knight Returns" for Wolverine, and so far I can't quibble with it too much. It's simple popcorn fun with the single most overexposed character in comics. Farscape #1 - Yet another genre classic moved from the screen (in this case the small screen) to the printed page. Written by show creator and producer Rockne O'Bannon, this series picks up after the events of the Peacekeeper Wars movie, and continues the adventures of everyone's favorite Muppet-based space adventurers. Look for more Farscape minis after this one from Boom Studios. Question of the Week - We turn the page on 2008, and begin 2009 anew. Rather than look back, we're going to look forward to the year ahead. What book, storyline or event are you most looking forward to in 2009? |
